Before I make the final purchase.
If you recall, a little while ago (about a week) I posted that I wanted to get a new video card with some of the b-day money that I got. I got a grand total of about $700, and $300 of that total is going in the bank, no exceptions. Anyhow, I was looking around and I decided on the Chaintech GeForce 6600GT. It seems good to me, but I just have a few questions before I make the final purchase.
1. Is 128MB enought Video RAM?
2. What is the difference between 128-bit and 256-bit memory?
3. Is a higher clock speed better?
The Specs on the Chaintech 6600GT:
Chipset/Core Speed: nVIDIA GeForce 6600GT/500MHz
Memory: 128MB GDDR3
BUS: AGP 8x
Ports: VGA Out(15 Pin D-Sub) + TV-Out (S-Video/Composite) + DVI
Support 3D API: DirectX 9(Shader Model 3.0), OpenGL 1.5
Max Resolution@32bit Color: 2048X1536@85Hz
RAMDACs: 400MHz

no. get the 6600gt. it kills the 9800pro. benchmarks
the difference between 128mb and 256mb video ram is hardly noticeable unless youre running at 1600x1200 with af and aa up
edit: 256bit is much better than 128bit. the 6600gt only has 128bit, but somehow is able to make up for this loss. the 9800pro runs on 256bit, but still gets clobbered by the 6600gt.
you cant really compare one card with another by just simply looking at specs and clock speeds.
i got the same card he is looking at and love it, i would love to have gotten the 6800 gt or x800 xt, but i do not wanta spend my whole pay check on a card which would net me a few extra fps when i really needed to drop money into the rest of my system
