cpu usage is STILL 99% on hera (of course that was with 18 players, haven't tried 16 yet) but pings were at 40 so, 10 times lower!
  • MisfireMisfire Join Date: 2002-11-03 Member: 5764Members
are they still working on the cpu usage for the maps?
  • MisfireMisfire Join Date: 2002-11-03 Member: 5764Members
cpu usage is 60% on nancy with 16 players, dunno if taht is a improvement or no, but im glad some things have been fixed like welder kills

it was a 1.02b bug, fixed in the final release thank god. Should'nt be a problem now, even the turret factory bug is gone.

    w00t,

glad they fixed the classname of the player, dunno why they changed it in the first place to avhplayer.

CPU usage is down a crapload, much less lag.

Err hrmm, my CPU usage seems about the same as it was before. I just put the new .so in place and restarted the server.

    Odd. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

Same... I dont see a marked improvment at all.

It's the only process running on a linux dedicated P4 1.7 w/ 512Megs of memory.

Started a hera 14 player server since patch said 50% improment and pings hit 300+ in a matter of minutes.
CPU usage 85% in first 5 minutes.

I'd prefer a higher bandwidth consumption and a lower CPU time.... I dont see the game really taking off otherwise, most server rental companies are not going to dedicate a whole box to a single game, and most people wont pay their asking price if they would.

After a bit of testing I've noticed that the linux server has had pretty much no improvements, whereas the win32 server is a fair bit better then 1.01.

However were still far from 'cs-like' performance, but we are slowly getting there.

Flayra, did you fix that issue you mentioned in a previous thread? The one line of code you were referring to?

Oh please tell me it ain't so!! There isn't any improvement on the linux NS server?!? Oh man that sucks!! Flayra do you know if you will be able to improve performance on the linux server? I don't know what the ratio is of win32 vs Linux servers, but I do know there are a bunch.. I hope I don't have to dedicate a hole box to just one server!
  • NecroNecro &lt;insert non-birthday-related title here&gt; Join Date: 2002-08-09 Member: 1118Members
yea, it still uses loads, barely under 50% on the smaller maps with 14 ppl

Yup, this is why Nano is down until I get the next batch of beta patches. The older 1.02b was better than this and had considerably less loads, but again it looks like the clock was turned back a tick.

    Oh well =(

I wouldn't say it didn't help linux servers at all. My linux server with 12 player max and pingbost 3 used to run at 99% with pings in the 50-100 range. Now it runs about 80% with similar ping. Not CS-like but better.

BTW 1800+xp with 256 MB of SDRAM. RH 7.3 with the 2.4.19 kernel customized for my server.

I'm totally bummed that mp_drawdamage has been deactivated in this patch - my players and I overwhelmingly liked that feature for helping us to train up on ranged weapons. I got a lot better pretty quick when I could see instant results (or lack thereof) of attacking in a certain style, leading targets correctly, etc.

Hopefully this feature will be accessible again in the next patch! It's definately got my vote.

    w2k 1.2ghz P3 512mb ram 1.02 patch
we noticed the cpu usage was much much better for much a much longer period but ultimately it will hit 90% quite easily on most maps beyond 20 minutes (average)

It's better and for that I'm thankfull !

keep up the good work guys !

    I think 1.2 is worse then 1.1.
    That patch did nothing
Before it was 14 ppl at 60%

    now its
    12764 ctx 25 0 90132 87M 5852 R 96.1 8.7 52:44 hlds
    96% at 9 people

I like the game alot and would like to host it, but no one is going to pay over $200 a month becuase a host cant run more then 1 per dedicated machine.

    Specs: P4 2ghz, 1g ram, 80 gig 7200 rpm hd

oh yea, pings were all 400+

the question is WHY, what did flay do that somehow made the cpu usage go back up?
  • GoleXGoleX Join Date: 2002-11-07 Member: 7681Members
Although CPU usage has not changed a bit on my Linux machine, I have seen a 30-50% decrease in pings on some of the bad maps (like ns_hera etc.)

    Nice work Flayra et al!
  • SuicideDogSuicideDog Join Date: 2002-11-10 Member: 8104Members
I would have to agree with GoleX.. server preformance on linux isn't all that much better .. but the pings are much better.

but back to the whole reason this patch came out

    admin mod compatibility

RBBOT sez it worked in the pre-beta release then something was changed and it broke the admin compatibility

when will we see a version compatible with admin/meta mod
  • VittoPBVittoPB Join Date: 2002-11-07 Member: 7566Awaiting Authorization
ktrain, why did you think this patch was for AM compatibility? No where that I've read that it stated that 1.02 was for AM compatibility.
  • Max1Max1 Join Date: 2002-11-08 Member: 7730Members
Says so inthe list of changes <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->- Updated code to be more compatible with Adminmod under win32 (dynamic cast issues). It may still not work under some configurations and work continues on it.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> Has anyone tried running adminmod on 1.02?
  • VittoPBVittoPB Join Date: 2002-11-07 Member: 7566Awaiting Authorization
Max you misread what I posted. He said back to the "whole" reason this implied the only reason. 1.02 wasnt just about AM. read more carfully

I dont care about Admin mod, I just whant lower CPU Usage, adn VAC support. Then I'm happy.
  • MellonpoprMellonpopr Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 2304Members
I agree the priorities (in my opinion) for SERVER fixes should be:
    cpu
    vac
    adminmod

I say cpu first because everyone is affected by this, vac secondly because cheating isn't widespread yet and adminmod lastly because the game runs fine and can be administered without it by rcon
