No Sound In Ns

My issue is that when i start up NS, i hear the background music and everything, i go to "find server" and join a random server and i can hear the sounds that play when ur connecting to the server.
My problem is that the minute i join the server, i lose all of my sound, even if i minimize NS and go to my desktop and try to play some music with winamp, i can't hear nething. The minute i close NS, i get my sound back.
Im am currently running an audigy 2 platnium sound card with the lastest drivers/updates. i have tried hl/cs/cs:s and sounds works perfectly for those. Any ideas?
