its the highest rank in boy scouts. very few people get it. years and years of my parents yelling at me to get to scouts and crap i guess kinda payed off. its spose to really help get jobs and give buttloads of scholarships.

started the project process 4/08/03 (as in started looking for a project), finished the project late 4/11/03, turned 18 4/12/03.

ya CAN'T touch that. and yes, i did do a "real" project, poured 2 concrete slabs for picnic tables in the park. digging the holes, making the forms, etc.

@ 6john: wtg, although i wouldn't relax completely yet, you've still got the board of review to go through. it's not a nailbiter though, generally.

For those of you who don't know, Eagle scout is the highest rank attainable in the B.S.A (boy scouts of america.) takes lots o' work, but looks crazy good on applications. Very few kids who join scouts get the rank, less than five percent.

that was between 4.5 and 5 years ago...

    Congrats 6john.

I too am an Eagle scout.

Believe it or not, as stupid as it sounds, it actually does impress employers to see 'eagle scout' on a resume. The last two jobs I had, I had my boss comment on that. Sometimes they'll have a relative or a friend of their own that is an eagle scout, and these little coincidences can help you land the job, as dumb as it may seem.

Scouting tought me many things, for one, it kill my belief in any god, and for two, it made me believe humanity as a whole is completely worthless and devoid of any good, common sense, or compassion for others. Hooray for scouting?

    para-military superchristians!
(that said, I'm gonna warn you - it didn't get me jack for scholarships)

I could have become an Eagle when I was like 12, however I moved before then. And yes I realize that sounds insane, but me and my brother were EXTREMELY involved.

First off, congratulations! Second, how long does it generally take someone to become an eagle scout? I assume its alot of work if that percentage is correct.

That pretty much sums it up.

But I don't want to turn the thread into a debate or flame war. Congrats 6john.

I only made it to First Class, because the other people in my troop were idiots, and I was tired of listening to them complain on hikes, pulling their weight and mine (sometimes litterally), so I stopped doing it.

You know, if the old US of A were ever to come under attack and the US Army wasn't able to repel the attack, and no draft was formed, and the Government still wouldn't surrender.. the Boy Scouts -are- on a list of organizations that can be called upon for military support. When the aliens attack, it is possible that the Government could order the Boy Scouts to report here or there and engage the enemy with.. pocket knives and Caro candles.

    That's a great mental image.

"Damn aliens! We're gonna build you a bridge! Let's see how you deal with that!"

    Who knows? It could happen....

Congratulations 6john, that sure must be tough. I myself have NEVER joined any boy scout organizations in Hong Kong mainly because the medium used is Cantonese.... not to mention it isn't worth it in Hong Kong.

Still, good on a form from what I hear XD
    Again, congratulations 6john

Breaking news, tonight the boyscout first batallion engaged the kharra in a battle of epic proportions. Several elderly oni were helped across the street, and countless gorges fell into traps made by digging a little hole and covering it with leaves. Reports say that the kharra's fade division was totally unprepared for the boyscout's daylight pocket-knife charge, which resulted in carnage on both sides. We'll have more on this story as it develops.

Unfortunately I was ejected from Scouts early on, when a demonstration of a model catapult went horribly awry and ended up embedding a 1" steel ball bearing halfway into a ceiling joist.

I was in scouts early on and up into boy scouts but its kind of like learning to become a drone: 'fend for yourself because somebody told you to.' <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Congrats of course though for following through with it - that's a lot of work!

I made coats for all the homeless people in our city <i>and</i> took care of our burgeoning cat population.

    They gave me the "2 years in jail" patch. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Congrats of Eagle.

I never was able to finish. I got to Life and had to quit. My music became more important. I wish I hadn't though. If only I had the time...

I am, however, Order of the Arrow. Heh...that is an experience you will always remember.

Congrats on Eagle Scout, once again!
