I Dont Get It

<div class="IPBDescription">why doesn't this work?</div> Ok, I made the alias "ammo" which combines impulse 11 (ask for ammo as a marine) and hotkey60 (drop ammo as a commander) and bound it to "a" (for the console challenged: I want to be able to press a as a marine to ask for ammo but as commander it would drop ammo). Works fine as a marine, but when I use it in commander mode it tells me hotkey60 is not a command, I type in hotkey60 and get an ammo pack ready to drop, I bind a key to hotkey60 and it works fine, what gives?

Heres the impulse/hotkey list I used:
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bindable console commands for the Natural Selection mod as figured out by Rabid Llama.
These might not be totally correct, but I've gone through and tested most of them (which is how I found most of them in the first place)
A question mark means it acts like it should do something, but doesn't (nothing happens, but there's a pause there where it seems like something could go)
A "<nothing>" means that there's a little doesn't-work beep sound when you try it, which means it does nothing at all.
    For an example, compare impulse 18 (a ?) and 19 (a <nothing> )
So here you go. No spamming these as binds, by the way

    ---------------------------------------------------------

Impulse commands: (mostly radio communications/spoken word)
(add an "impulse " to the beginning of all of these for them to work)
(also, the Marines and Aliens have different functions attached to the same commands. It should be pretty self-explanatory)

    Number For Marines
    1 next weapon
    2 ?
    3 drop weapon
    5 readyroom
    6 ?
    7 "follow me"

    11 "need ammo"
    12 "in position"
    13 "enemy here"
    14 "move out"
    15 "all clear"
    16 ?
    17 ?
    18 ?
    80 "need order"
    81 "acknowledged"
    90 <nothing>
    91 <nothing>
    92 <nothing>
    93 <nothing>
    94 <nothing>
    95 <nothing>

*sigh* nobody knows, or more likely nobody cares <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

Flayra has already stated that he's made the "hotkey" commands so that you can't bind several to a single keystroke, in order to prevent 733T users gaining an unfair advantage. The idea is NS is playable without having multiple commands bound to each key, so you shouldn't do it.

Just make individual configs for each class.
in the commander config have x bound to drop ammo
and in the marine config to ask for ammo

    then eg:
    bind "f1" "exec commander.cfg"
    bind "f2" "exec marine.cfg"

I dont see how that gives me an unfair advantage, it just means I dont have memorize 500000 keys and sacrifice some for others, I understand that the mouse2 menu is to save binds but it *always* gets stuck on the screen so I dont use it very often forcing me to bind keys for the radio, evolving, building chambers ect... And then theres the commander mode which brings my fps way down, the menu is really unresponsive when your fps are low so the mouse just doesn't cut it, I love commanding though so I have some of the commander keys bound but I have no more room on my keyboard and its really annoying having to click 15 times just to get a resource tower down. If the bugs in the menu are fixed I could get rid of enough binds to use the commander mode correctly, speaking of the commander mode, its just wierd, I go straight from 60 to 5 fps when I hop in the CC, is it rendering the whole map or something? One of the things NS was supposed to do was eliminate the need for complicated binds, but its taking up my whole keyboard and more, dont give me any **obscenity** about NS being playable without multiple commands, what chance do you think a commander that cant place buildings or weapons has? Late game I have to step down and be a lowly marine (ever since 1.01 Ive got about one chance to be alien) and return to my lovely norm of 60 fps while some guy does absolutly nothing but spam HMG's and HA a our base.
[edit] hey thats a good idea lugo! I'll go try it now[/edit]

Your right, this particular case does not give u an advantage. However, binding hotkey86 and hotkey56 to the same key would allow u to build a turret no matter what menu you are in as a comm. And is s'posedly an "unfair advantage". If anyone could think of a more severe case feel free to share.
