<div class="IPBDescription">my old topic is gone :(</div> I used the search function and didn't find it. I opened a similar topic last year in the summer. but nevermind. I got some new information about the theme.

What do you think about the music in NS ?is it really necessary? I think it is. It makes the atmosphere much more comfortable =) The music was made by <a href='http://www.jeremysoule.com/index2.html' target='_blank'>Jeremy Soule</a>

I think Flayra had to pay a high bill :/ if you take a look at the games the guy made the music for. respect.

but there's another cool artist called <a href='http://www.david-john.com/' target='_blank'>David John</a> he made the music for the 3.0 trailer as some guys of you already know =)

What do you think about his style compared to Soules one?

-edit-
plz don't post 2-5 words like "I disabled the music"

The music for the trailer rocked <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> but i dont really think the music for the game is neccessary. I turned mine off anyway coz it just stops you from hearing skulks/marines imo.

@Red! That's true. I retarded the playratetime of loops for the music so they don't annoy me but I didn't disable them. I have to be honest that I was really a little bit scared back in 2.0 when I was playing NS for the first time and the music made me some more stress <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Oh I always loved the music in-game, rather atmospheric I always thought. Probably doesn't help the gameplay, but I ain't gonna be turning it off anytime soon.

i agree, the musc is a very good introduction to those newcomers to ns, but other than that.. it sometimes gets in the way of the gameplay ;x

Yep, I also turned the music off, some tome ago. But I listen to the titlemusic which you can find as a .mp3 in one of the directorys. I like it very much.
But it is not good for hearing aliens and it was kinda hard to turn it off, because it is so atmospheric. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Jeremy Soule is truely a god among mortals.

    Total Annihilation
    Dungeon Siege
    Giants: Citizen Kabuto
    Star Wars: KOTOR

All of it is so beautiful and adds so much to the atmosphere. It's a shame that I turned off the music in NS so I could hear skulk footsteps better...

    The truth, this man speaks.

Music is cool at first, but after dying because you couldn't hear the skulk a couple of times you turn it off.

I know it's a tragedy, but I never listen to the music ingame, seeing as it does distract me from the game a bit. Have caught myself humming it in some parts. Mental bollocking for it, and ended up dead as a result. I normally have headphones on hooked up to the rig, and my normal speakers hooked up to my iPod cradle, playing background music over some Altec speakers, seems to work best for me.

Anyone else with some weird music set-ups, like mine?

@thebigone we are not talking about custom music here. it's the official game music to NS made by a professional composer.

    @RouterBox you need reading glasses
/me is quoting myself at the beginning of the topic:
"plz don't post 2-5 words like "I disabled the music" "

@daidalos yes that's true but you can calm the music volume down so you still can hear skulks =) it works for me (with headphones and speakers)

@Eclipser I was very impressed about that too! that's because his music fits perfect in NS. Jeremy Soule is also called "The John Williams of gamemusic"

btw let's not lead this discussion to a disciussion about gameplay. we've alota these topics in this board. I wanna talk about the music and their composers in general.
I'm currently listening to "David John - Another Sunrise" (you can download these samples for free on his official website (look up to my opening post).

I love the style of Soule very much and he's really the John Williams of gamemusic. David John is cool but I think he shouldn't compose his songs so they song similar to each other (that's one thing I recognized)

    Hey Guys!

I'm glad most liked the music I did for the recent trailer.

Jeremy is one of my favorite game composers without a shred of a doubt. His music for Total Annihilation is what sparked my interested in making music for games in the first place. Compared to an old pro like Jeremy, I'm pretty new to composing music for games. So to be mentioned in the same post, and comparisons being made ( positive or negative ) is certainly flattering. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

wow David himself posted here =)

may I ask you a question. Do you have your own orchestra? or do you use programmes to compose your songs? I'd like to compose songs by myself because I'm a musican =)
  • Dave_JohnDave_John Join Date: 2005-03-04 Member: 43189Members
Real orchestras tend to be very expensive, not quite in my budget at the moment. I use various different applications for composing. For the most part, professional tools come with a hefty price tag. For an all in one starter kit thats not going to break the bank, and works on your average PC, I would recommend looking into Garritan Personal Orchestra.

    Cheers,
    Dave

i almost never play with sound because i have speakers and when i play, i have my whole family in the backround making noise.

all i hear are the loud bullets and thats about it.

i found myself a headset a few days ago <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> still, i'm not complaining about the music. goes great with the game imo.
