Sound Crackling

When ever i'm in the vicinty of any looped sound (mapper placed ambience), i got lots of crackling and static. Normal sounds (gun sounds, chamber placement even popupmenu usage) work completly fine. Its only sounds that are looped and they all tend to be the ones that wont stop when you use "stopsound". Even if i turn off the sound effects in the ns menu so that i cant hear most sounds i still get the crackling in the places wheres theres looping sound. This is not constant crackling and it happens at the same place in the same maps. This is getting really annoying. Is there any fix for it?

    If they don't stop when you use "stopsound", they're most likely .mp3 files. I don't know why that would cause crackling though, but you can always replace them with empty files if it's a big problem.

    This might be an EAX problem, which I have on my PC. For all the greatness of the board, My A8N-SLi has RealTek AC97 sound, which the version of EAX that's with HL doesn't seem to like, even though I know the chip does EAX2.0. Even after installing the EAXUnified set, it still happened, so I just switched EAX off, and the crackling stopped. No other game crackles...

    thanks for your answers but EAX is tuned off in game :/
    I tried to upgrade to newest drivers, to reduce acceleration in DirectX (with dxdiag.exe) but still the same...
    And the crackings only happen in natural selection and only on looping sounds, it's driving me mad :<

    half life is perfectly fine, but ns is jsut bad. the crackling only goes for like 1 minute, then it dissapears.

    My problem is that it doesn't only do this for 1 minute :\
    When it starts it never stops. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Since I can't play with these crakling i used the simple method: I removed the sound/ambience folder, everything ok now.
    I won't be able to play with consistency on but it's better than not playing at all.
