1) How many dogs do you have, what breed are they, and how old are they?
Just lost one 2 weeks ago(poor Odie. I love you man, I'm wearing that collar on my wrist every day. And for anyone reading the rest of this thinking "No wonder he died", he died because when he was a pup, kids kicked him in in a lot of places, and specifically, they diagnosed early on[when we got him] that his liver was in initial stages of failing, and his back two legs were severely damaged.]), so I'm gonna count this like he's still around. He was a terrier, and was 4 years old. My other dog is a Bulldog/Terrier mix, 12 years old.

2) How often do you take them for walks?
...almost never.

3) On average, how long are the walks?
When we do go, about 2 miles.

4) Do you take your dog(s) to dog parks?
There are none in my city.

5) Does your dog have a job? (Ex: Guard dog, herding dog)
No

6) What brand of dog food do you feed them? (Kibble, canned or both? If it's a homemade diet, list the ingredients. If it's a raw diet, what different meats/parts do you feed?)
Pedigree Dog Food

7) How much and how often do you feed them?
About a bowl a day, every day.

8) How often do you take them to the vet?
Once a year, sometimes longer, depending.

9) Are they spayed/neutered?
Yes

10) Have you noticed any behaviour problems in your dog(s)? (Ex: Being aggressive with toys or with other dogs)
My first dog, Shadow, is especially aggressive for a dog her size, while Odie was especially repressive, even before he met shadow. Damn kids.

11) Have you ever taken part in obedience/training classes?
No

12) How do you feel about obedience?
Simple punishment is all thats needed- long complex things are a waste of money.

13) Do you treat your dogs like they're your children?
Hell frickin yeah. I love 'em, always play with 'em.

14) Do you recognize their need for a pack leader?
No, they already have one between them, as Shadow.

15) How do you feel about choke collars?
Not the greatest idea.

16) How do you feel about shock collars?
If done right(only if they cross a certain line) it'll be okay.

17) How do you feel about prong or "pinch" collars?
Nono.

18) Have you ever watched a dog training show on TV? Do you watch one regularly? (Ex: "The Dog Whisperer")
No, though I used to watch this show where every week they had dogs go through an obstical course...

19) Have you spent any time researching dog psychology?
No

20) Anything else to add?

I love my remainder, Shadow. But damn, I miss poor ol' Odie...

1) How many dogs do you have, what breed are they, and how old are they?
I've had 3 dogs before, and currently I have 1. It's a cross mix of Schaefer and Border-collie.

2) How often do you take them for walks?
Two-three times a day (when I have to take care of it).

3) On average, how long are the walks?
A walk around the neighborhood.

4) Do you take your dog(s) to dog parks?
There's no parks here.

5) Does your dog have a job? (Ex: Guard dog, herding dog)
Yes: Sleeping dog.

6) What brand of dog food do you feed them? (Kibble, canned or both? If it's a homemade diet, list the ingredients. If it's a raw diet, what different meats/parts do you feed?)
Some stuff from the groceries.

7) How much and how often do you feed them?
Once-twice a day (he gets the leftovers from dinner).

8) How often do you take them to the vet?
Never.

9) Are they spayed/neutered?
No. I think we should neuter him, since he likes to display his "package" all the time cause he likes to sleep while laying on back.

10) Have you noticed any behaviour problems in your dog(s)? (Ex: Being aggressive with toys or with other dogs)
Barks for even the smallest things, like a fart down the street.

11) Have you ever taken part in obedience/training classes?
No. Self-experience all the way!

12) How do you feel about obedience?
The dog should understand "stay" and "lay down".

13) Do you treat your dogs like they're your children?
Heh, almost, I really like my dog.

14) Do you recognize their need for a pack leader?
Negative.

15) How do you feel about choke collars?
Could almost need one, since my dog pulls like mad when I take him for walks! He pulls so hard, he chokes himself on the leathercollar.

16) How do you feel about shock collars?
That'd probably do it!

17) How do you feel about prong or "pinch" collars?
Negative.

18) Have you ever watched a dog training show on TV? Do you watch one regularly? (Ex: "The Dog Whisperer")
No. Only thing I watch rarely is some show on RealityTV about K-9 units.

19) Have you spent any time researching dog psychology?
Books are stupid, so no.

20) Anything else to add?
My dog yells loudly when the icecream-van passes by, playing the tune. Heh, funneh dog :/ .
Oh, a quick edit: His name is Sudden, and here is a close-up picture on his face! : http://www.shatteredminds.net/skit/sudden.jpg , and here he is laying on his back: http://www.shatteredminds.net/skit/doggy.jpg

"Fixed". In female dogs, the ovaries and the uterus are removed. In males, the testicles are either removed, or they are injected with something that causes them to shrivel up and stop producing sperm. This is to prevent dogs from breeding, as overpopulation is a big problem in parts of the world.

free feed

8) How often do you take them to the vet?

9) Are they spayed/neutered?
yes

10) Have you noticed any behaviour problems in your dog(s)? (Ex: Being aggressive with toys or with other dogs)
she has seperation anxiety something fierce. And she's a scardy cat when it comes to confrontations with other dogs.

11) Have you ever taken part in obedience/training classes?
No

12) How do you feel about obedience?
Its a good thing - but you don't need a formal class if you're willing to read a book or two and put the time in with your dog.

Yes

14) Do you recognize their need for a pack leader?

a small amount of time, yes

20) Anything else to add?
Had 2 other dogs in my life - both boxers. First one was obedient and loyal, second one was a wonderful dog but hyper and a runner. I think all dogs can be trained but a HUUUUGE part of how 'easy' they are relies on their personality.

Uhh, they're obediant dogs, never run off or anything.

13) Do you treat your dogs like they're your children?
Not really.

14) Do you recognize their need for a pack leader?
What?

15) How do you feel about choke collars?
We use them, only because they're really excitable and jump on people.

16) How do you feel about shock collars?
I guess I don't really care, but I wouldn't use them on my dogs.

17) How do you feel about prong or "pinch" collars?
Same thing as choke collars in my opinion.

18) Have you ever watched a dog training show on TV? Do you watch one regularly? (Ex: "The Dog Whisperer")
No.

19) Have you spent any time researching dog psychology?
No.

20) Anything else to add?
No.

1) How many dogs do you have, what breed are they, and how old are they?
1 Collie mix (not sure of the mixed part)

2) How often do you take them for walks?
1 or 2 times a week but she runs sprints in the backyard everyday.

3) On average, how long are the walks?
Not sure of the distance but we're usually out for 1/2-1 hour.

4) Do you take your dog(s) to dog parks?
No but we visit relatives who have dogs.

5) Does your dog have a job? (Ex: Guard dog, herding dog)
Does forcing me to shovel poo all the time count? Otherwise, no.

6) What brand of dog food do you feed them? (Kibble, canned or both? If it's a homemade diet, list the ingredients. If it's a raw diet, what different meats/parts do you feed?)
Science Diet for Sensitive Skin.

7) How much and how often do you feed them?
1 cup in the morning and 1 cup in the evening.

8) How often do you take them to the vet?
1 time in 9 months for an irritated eye.

9) Are they spayed/neutered?
Yes.

10) Have you noticed any behaviour problems in your dog(s)? (Ex: Being aggressive with toys or with other dogs)
Only that she likes to tear the stuffing out of everything. Otherwise she's playful but not aggressive.

11) Have you ever taken part in obedience/training classes?
No.

12) How do you feel about obedience?
Dogs must know their place but must also receive praise and attention. We use a fingersnap to get her attention otherwise I use "the voice".

13) Do you treat your dogs like they're your children?
Sort of. She is given her own bedding and we conciously spend time with her but she isn't allowed on the furniture.

14) Do you recognize their need for a pack leader?
Yes. She's constantly looking for approval.

15) How do you feel about choke collars?
Unnecessary with a well trained dog.

16) How do you feel about shock collars?
Unnecessary with a well trained dog.

17) How do you feel about prong or "pinch" collars?
Unnecessary with a well trained dog.

18) Have you ever watched a dog training show on TV? Do you watch one regularly? (Ex: "The Dog Whisperer")
While flipping channels I've seen them but other than a random "idea" I don't have much use for them.

19) Have you spent any time researching dog psychology?
No.

20) Anything else to add?
When you know dogs or a specfic dog well, you can understand them easily by watching their behaviour. Pacing, panting, heightened alertness, intense eye contact, etc can tell you what state they're in.

1) How many dogs do you have, what breed are they, and how old are they?
Two. They are both Pembroke Welsh Corgis. One is almost 15 if I remember correctly, the other is going on about 4 or 5 years.

2) How often do you take them for walks?
Never, really.

3) On average, how long are the walks?
See 2.

4) Do you take your dog(s) to dog parks?
We have no dog parks.

5) Does your dog have a job? (Ex: Guard dog, herding dog)
Nope, not really. Corgis are herding dogs, but they pretty much just sit, eat, and sleep.

6) What brand of dog food do you feed them? (Kibble, canned or both? If it's a homemade diet, list the ingredients. If it's a raw diet, what different meats/parts do you feed?)
Dry food.

7) How much and how often do you feed them?
Once per day, the afternoon. I feed them a scoop, probably about a cup, cup and a half. They barely weigh 20-25 lbs. (that's about 10 kg for you haters), so really not a lot.

8) How often do you take them to the vet?
Uh... haven't taken them in almost forever.

9) Are they spayed/neutered?
Yep. They're both neutered.

10) Have you noticed any behaviour problems in your dog(s)? (Ex: Being aggressive with toys or with other dogs)
They pretty much always fight. Nothing violent, but the younger one is a jerk to the older one because he's trying to be alpha.

11) Have you ever taken part in obedience/training classes?
Er, no.

12) How do you feel about obedience?
Dogs should obey their masters, but never really had a problem with insubordination in them. However, they really bark a lot. They won't shut up, and when I tell them to, they pretty much just wait a bit then bark again. Their bark is a lot louder than their bite, as you can tell.

13) Do you treat your dogs like they're your children?
Not sure what you mean by that. Never had children, so not sure. But I feed them and I don't hit them. I pet them occasionally when I'm not feeling lazy.

14) Do you recognize their need for a pack leader?
Not sure. They never think really like a pack because I feed them, but they look up to me.

15) How do you feel about choke collars?
Our dogs don't wear collars. We have a fenced in area.

16) How do you feel about shock collars?
Eh. Not really useful. I don't really like them. I don't want them to feel confined.

17) How do you feel about prong or "pinch" collars?
What are those?...

18) Have you ever watched a dog training show on TV? Do you watch one regularly? (Ex: "The Dog Whisperer")
Nope and no.

19) Have you spent any time researching dog psychology?
Not really. I like to think the smarter Corgis are empathetic though.

20) Anything else to add?
Not really, no. Sorry I wasn't really helpful.

This is a prong collar. They look mean, but they're meant to simulate the closing of the mother's mouth around the pup's neck. (This is a correction.)

Don't worry, you're all being helpful. I'd like to write a little bit about some of the questions I asked in the survey once the responses have died down.. (Explaining why being the pack leader of your dog is essential, for example.)
