    Checking...

Doesn't say in Changelog, but Turrets don't fire at aliens with < 10% Visibility.
    SC Cloak negates MT though.

EDIT: Feel free to correct me as I just play the game (ever since babblers) and I don't analyze the game. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
I think i read it was <30 but don't hang me on it.

well I'm one who actually used that screen adjustment thing provided with NS since 1.00 so, yes, there is dark in NS. At least there's "darker" and that's good enough for you to hide with cloaking for a few seconds.

I used the screen adjusment thing too. I tweaked my monitor so it was as easy as possible to see the skulk.

    You don't get my point do you <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I know NS isn't Doom3 we-don't-see-anything shadows, but that doesn't mean you can see a cloaker within a millisecond if he was hiding in a dark place, such as one of those hole things in Furnace on Bast
  • NaoNao Join Date: 2005-03-06 Member: 43684Members
I get the point, but for the most part, cloaking is a very reliable upgrade.

The problem is, most of the exploitive counters to it that you've named are beyond the control of software (Monitors may be different, gamma for display may be different and NS gamma may be different, but is limited)... So beyond going to meet people personally to make sure they're playing in the most 'Vanilla' manner, there's nothing you can really do about it except be more cautious.

Competitive Vid I watched recently.. The marine would fire bursts into hiding spots since he didn't have MT. He found the alien quickly but still died since he was right in front of it and the skulk got its bites in.

So, change how you use cloaking. It's imperfect. You can see skulks crawl in bright places, but I cannot see them in dark places. If you crawl across the floor to me and I have a suspcion that there are enemies afoot, I'll sit in a corner and carefully watch the walls leading to my position. It's not impossible to see them when you're patient. It isn't impossible to spray a burst into a corner and see if green blood spurts and an uncloaked alien panicing either.

Its not just the flashlight, but anything involving light and/or gas. Its only really noticeable if you know what to look for. My gamma is set using the NS testy thing, I can still pick out cloaked skulks.

Try using the roof, a wall, or staying the hell away from res node gas or lights.

a lots of ppl cloak in co... but it doesnt work against a good player or a team who actually gets a scanner...

in ns there is no shame for cloaking, it really helps u and the team for not revealing urself until the time for ambush.

How could've this one slipped by us for this much time. Obviously they got it wrong when they implemented the flashlight in NS, clearly this is exploitive and doesn't follow the concepts behind using a flashlight <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
ROFL so true so true. Who would have thought a flashlight would help make things more visible.

I'm not sure about the exploit but using the flashlight lightens the background behind a cloaker allowing you to see him (if he's partially cloaked) - also allows you to see aliens better in the dark.
why not run around with the flashlight on now - with the alien flashlight, having a flashlight on is now less disadvantage for rines and very advantageous in darkish areas.

flashlight is free lambert for aliens in dark places.

but then again so is alien flashlight

it's so weird cause I couldn't see any cloaked aliens ever, and since a week or so, i can see cloaked aliens very clearly without the flashlight <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I just think of it as a random guy is checkin out an area and he see the lights not reflect on a certain part of the room as the light bends around it telling him either to fire, or gtfo. lol

It's true though. It removes the fun from the marines = 50% of the people.

    You're wrong.

And I can say this with authority, because when I play marines, I have a blast playing against cloak.

Perhaps it ruins the fun of some of the marines, but for others it enhances it.

What it really hampers is those who rely more on finely honed reaction times than tactics.

I find using cloaking on pubs boring. I've never tried competitive while using cloak, except for a laugh.

It is so much more fun to take carapace + adrenaline and leap like crazy.

I tried cloaking once in a PUG and took 5 marines down by standing in the middle of the walkway on Tanith.

    GFG idiot marines.
