modem is drops when enter game
Ive had alook around. Ive not seen anything like this, so here goes....
I know this is a very strange problem, ive never seen it before.
This does not happen all the time.
I enter the game, as in the ready room. It freezes then connection problem or whatever it is pops up.
I alt tab, look at my modem, it says its still connected, but if u open internet explorer, it cant reach any pages.
Then the modem drops by itself, and the connection does go.
How on earth is NS making my connection drop?
Has any1 else seen this?
Ive tried a normal game of half life, and it seemed to be ok, but ill try a few more goes. As the problem does not happen every time.

i think your problem is your modem is a software modem, so when you join a server using openGL or D3D your PC will just kill your connection to save the program you are running , run it on software(dont know if u can) and see if that helps.
the reson i dont think that it happens all the time is beacsue at the point you connect to a server you CPU doenst have much to do.
What to do is connect to the net go find a big file to download and get it for 1hour. aftert that go try NS , and it should work fine.
only one way to stop it, buy a nice new modem , or Xmas is nearly hear.
dont know if that will help , but if you can post your PC stats and Connection it would help m8
Using Cox Cable (High Speed Unsaturated) with win2k (fresh reformat) on a 933Mhz system (BIOS A11 for those who care) behind a LinkSys 4 Port Router w/ Uplink. I can connect to NS, but for about a week, it would kill my connection within 2 minutes of play time. I could reboot, and my connection would be fine again, but as soon as I go into NS... 2 minutes later, sure enough, I lag - connection problem WITHOUT a cl_flushentity pack error! - and would eventually timeout.
Now, some 1 to 2 weeks later, I don't get the problem. I reset my router a couple times after a heavy glitch (the problem killed my connection for almost 24 hours, from about 2 or 3am until I got home late that night, 10 or so) , and everything has worked fine since.
If you have a router, hub, or switch, I suggest you power down all of your connected computers. Shut down your router/hub/switch. Shut down your Cable/DSL/etc modem. Let them sit for about 30 or 40 minutes, cool off (5 minutes is plenty, but not less than 2!), and turn them back on in reverse order: Cable/DSL, Router/Hub/Switch, Computers, with at least 2 minutes inbetween, and I strongly suggest a good 5. Little bit of patience goes a long way!
Pick up a good magazine or book from the library for this. In the event that your connection still doesn't work, it helps to have something else to do
If you don't have a like device between your computer and your modem/cable etc, I suggest you just power down for a night, and see if that takes care of it.
Hope everything works out for you like it did for me. I don't think NS causes it per se, but the coincidences are just too strong to miss. *shrugs* Good luck, bro!

If the above does not fix it, plz plz PLZ post a BIT more information. What OS, what connection (modem does not specify... nor does analogue/digital), your ISP, speed of computer, etc!!! The more information you give us, the quicker and better we can help you!
Well, my modem is not a software modem. Its hardware based. Its not emulated so its not taking any processer time away from my PC. Where as the damn sound....
My specs are
1.3 GHz Duron.
256MB of RAM
GeForce2 MX 400 (shite i know....)
Intel® 526EP V.92 Modem
WIN XP Pr
Its quite new. Ive had a few problems with IRQ sharing. By BIOS will only allow me to set certain ones. So it was a nightmare swapping around trying to get the GeForce2 on its own IRQ.
It works fine with other games and anything else net related. But I have to say I joined 3 games last night, and it didnt happen.
Interresting to know that saturn had the same problem, except it was with cable.....
