hi, I just bought myself a new 200 gig SATA drive, so I had to reinstall windows and all the progs and games. I reinstalled ns beta 5, then erased it, then installed ns 3. Now I get an awfully high ping, from 150 to 600. I got no kazaa running or nothing.

do u guys know what's going on?

    A few questions to help clearify....

    Are you running cable, dsl, isbn, sat, dialup?

    Did you scan for viruses and make sure your virsu scanner/some other program is not downloading in the background?

    if you have a fast connection, did you type cl_rate 99999 and rate 99999 into console?

    How far away is the server(s) you tested on, and are they experiencing lag?

    Thx dude!

    I tried rate 99999 and it worked like a charm

    btw, how come you know these things, and what does rate 99999 do?

    I dunno. I had to know these things (rate, etc.) when I was on 56k so I could conc-jump with the least amount of lag (yes, i conc jumped with a 56k.. wow..) and... when I finally got cable, everyone told me to jack it up.

    Oh, BTW, rate is capped at 20k, I just say 99999 'cause it looks prettier <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    As explained by <a href='http://www.foom.net/fortressfiles/netcode.htm' target='_blank'>This Website</a>

    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->RATE: The rate instruction indicates, how many data (in byte) will transfer per second. The server instructions are sv_minrate and sv_maxrate. server instruction are meaningful only for data transmitted from server, not the reverse.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    I might also reccomend going to <a href='http://www.usaklig.net/rates.html' target='_blank'>here</a> to learn more recommended console commands.
