Came out yesterday :O
Disclaimer: Usually I can get search to work, but I've been having trouble with it lately. If there's another recent thread . . . too bad.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I've been looking forward to this title more than anything else I can think of that comes out this year. I'm a huge fan of the whole series (as well as most other Tom Clancy name-branded games), and I've been drooling over this puppy ever since the new co-op multiplayer was shown off at E3. I must have replayed the singleplayer demo dozens of times trying to find all the tricks and new ways to kill people - it really is far less linear now, although it's no Deus Ex.
Anyway, it came out yesterday, but because ebgames sucks and doesn't ship their preorders when they tell you they will (), I probably won't have my copy until tommorrow. I'm curious if anyone else is thinking of picking it up so we can get some sexcellent MP action going on up in this muh.
. . .
Oh, right, I should probably tell you what's new. Well, the singeplayer game has a new engine, complete with a very sexy dynamic lighting system and some pretty decent normal mapping and shader action (to be honest, I think the normal mapping can look pretty stupid and even comical at times, but that's what you get with XBOX ports, I suppose). Sam now has a lot more options in terms of actually killing people, including a variety of underbarrel mods for the SC-20K (Splinter Cell's "fictional" assault rifle, loosely based on an experimental FN weapon) such as a masterkey shotgun, a 20mm antimaterial rifle(!), and a plain old foregrip for assault manuevers. Additionally, you now finally have a knife, as well as a healthy variety of things to do with it. Uses range from straight-up gangsta shankage to breaking locks open to even cutting new entrances into tents and the like.
The multiplayer is for all intents and purposes a different game at this point. I'm not even sure it uses the same engine anymore. Additions include new moves and new weapons for the mercs - a shotgun and submachinegun, specifically - as well as some new gadgets for the spies such as the active camoflauge (I've read that this is a bit gimicky and doesn't really do much to help you hide, although I haven't actually played the multiplayer). The most interesting addition is the ability for spies to work together to reach otherwise inaccessable locations with human ladders or attack mercs with a sort of leapfrog vault.
Like I mentioned above, there's also a brand new co-op mode. You've probably seen as much of it as I have, so I don't really have much to say that you don't already know. I heart co-op gameplay, so I'm definately looking forward to this more than anything else in the game.
So, what are you waiting for? Buy now! Run! Go Go Super Consumer Action!

ps. iam talking PC here.
...sooo it wouldnt take long for it to get here...
Yes and no. If you want to be as absolutely sneaky as possible and never kill anyone or even let them know you exist, yes. However, you can now attack people in melee with the knife or fist strikes without grabbing them first, so it's a lot easier to recover from a sloppy decision and keep playing without loading. It does make the game a lot easier, but you can just turn up the difficulty to maximum so that most weapons kill you in one to two hits in order to even things out.
Thank you for pointing this out. I really love the Splinter Cell series.
think its the same thing here then... always thought that, but when i saw this thread... never know... those sneaky vietcong eggs.
What most people think is that the camo suit is an immediate escape tactic to hide from mercs, the power of the camo suit is in using it when the merc DOESN'T know you're in the area, it's not a quick save for a merc who knows you're somewhere nearby.
Fools! I have no braincells to lose.

From what I could tell, it's March 29 for North America, March 31 for anyone else.
maybe i'll just get lego star wars: the video game just for the fun of it the demo rocked
I hope they improved it, because the beta seemed a little buggy to me :/
