<div class="IPBDescription">very wierd thing</div> Wierd thing about CPU usage..

Well.. at first I removed pingboost from my linux server which running 18 player server. I founded a way drop cpu usage from 90% to 20-25% (ns_hera map when 18 player is in server).

Server is full as usual. Of course I am happy man about it. The problem is CPU usage which rises everyhour.. Started at 10-15% to 40-45%. If I restart server and change map to ns_hera and server fills up.. after 6 hour CPU usage is under 30%.. After 7-8 hour CPU usage rises to 40-45%.

Details:

RedHat 7.2
Amd 2000 Xp+ with 512 DDR memory
100Mbit Connection

    so your saying pingboost in the command line actually hurts the cpu too much with the 1.02 patch ?

    I tried what you wrote HUkka, but didn't see that much improvement. Any thing else I should try?

    Are you talking about the built-in HLDS pingbooster or the add-on hlds_boost? (both of which I have running at the same time).

    If they don't help at all I'll drop them. Heck if you tell me changing the name of my server to "1337 mofos only" will make it faster, I'd do that too <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I'd be delighted if you could tell me how you managed that. We're running an AMD Athlon XP 2000+ too, with a gig of RAM... Hera still yields very high CPU usage for us (80%-90%+), in much less than the 7-8 hours you described it takes to get your usage up to about 40-45%...

    What are we doing wrong? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> I have seen some of your other posts but haven't been able to figure out what's giving you these results... Maybe I missed your "breakthrough" post? I'll keep looking, but can anyone provide a link to what I may have overlooked?

    Thanks! <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='skulk.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='skulk.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='skulk.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I cant figure it out either... so far from what I've read, he isn't doing anything that hasn't already been done. I'm beginning to wonder if he's talking about cpu usage at the beginning right after a map change. My cpu is at 20-30% with 20 players at that point but after 20 minutes we're at 40-60% and rising at 1 hour it's usually pegged 75-90% depending on the map etc..

    If the aliens keep the marines from leaving their base and expanding the cpu will stay around 50-60 % so I say we remove the marines from the game to keep cpu usage down ! j/k <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
