<div class="IPBDescription">free online video game mag, pretty neat.</div>There's a new, free online game review magazine called <a href='http://www.gamersquarter.com/' target='_blank'>Gamer's Quarter</a>. Check out their first issue, you can dl it as a PDF.
I like it. Its intelligent writing, with a good mix of focusing on the new as well as the glory days of the old. The whole thing looks quite professional, it looks like they were ready to print the thing. If they do start printing it I'll probably become a subscriber just off the strength of the first issue. In particular, there are 2 really great articles in it:
<b>Not a Review of Metal Gear Solid 3</b>
As you may have guessed, its about MGS3. But rather than the simple summation of what opening plot & scenario followed by the games strengths and weaknesses and then a fabricated number to show how close to gaming nirvana the game is, it simply details what authors feelings about the game and his thoughts of the Metal Gear series as a whole. As a Metal Gear fanboy, I found it to be a quite interesting read.
<b>Dissecting a Hedgehog</b>
This one was really interesting: an in-depth analysis of Sonic the Hedgehog series. Looking at what made the old games (1-3, mostly) so great and the things they had that the new games lack, and thus why they just don't feel right.

An exerpt:
<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->On the car trip back home, I started playing Wizards and Warriors. I've had this game in my NES collection for years, but somehow, until that trip, I had completely forgotten that it gives you unlimited continues. Unlimited!
I know exactly why I had forgotten, though. It's because Wizzards and Warriors isn't a game you replay until you finish it. It's a game that you play until it makes you cry, throwing the controller and shutting off the console in disgust. It's a game that, more often then not, ends with you collapsing on the couch and staring at the blank TV screen, trying to make your NES catch fire through sheer force of rage.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Stop using Adobe Acrobat and use one of the other pdf viewers for Firefox. You are using Firefox, right?
however...i felt that the overall appearance of the magazing was lacking. it felt like i was just reading a text document someone sent to me through e-mail. the look of it could use some work.
the articles were EXCELLENT however. chrono trigger and sonic were very nicely worded.
btw tycho, i'm using ie. DON'T KILL ME!!
...

It's not going to change the fact i'll still pick up PC Zone each month, but in 4 months when the next issue is released, i'll definately give it a read again.
