Above are my tracer settings. They produce a bright blue
streak above as long as an onos that travels at the speed of
a Lerk. You can take this, edit it, and place into your config.cfg or
userconfig.cfg to make your own tracers.
EDIT:
IF YOUR GONNA PUT THE TRACER SETTINGS IN YOUR CONFIG.CFG
FILE, SET IT AS "READ ONLY" AFTER. IT TENDS TO "DELETE" YOUR
TRACER SETTINGS IF YOU DON'T SET IT AS READ ONLY.
EDIT 2:
YOU WILL NOT SEE ANY TRACERS UNTIL YOU GET LEVEL 1 WEAPONS.
AS YOUR WEAPON UPGRADES, YOU WILL START FIRING MORE TRACERS.

their tracer settings and hopefully people learn about them.
Every few bullets has them, and they leave a streak of color
so you know where your bullets are going.
In NS, the default tracer is yellow. However, you can change
stuff like how fast it goes, how bright it is, etc...
What does traceralpha and traceroffset mean?
And where can I see the defaults?
edit: I put it in my config.cfg but nothing changed :/

I believe the most important aspect of tracers is making is possible for the soldier to count the amount of bullets left on an automatic weapon.
traceroffset: Every x-Bullet will be shown. 0 shows every bullet, a setting of 5 only every 5th bullet.

I've been using these for awhile they look nice <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Blue is the TSA colour so it fits in well. <!--emo&::tsa::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tsa.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tsa.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Nope.
Tracers are mainly used in machine guns for anti-aircraft/personell use.
Tracers allow the operator to estimate where their bullets are going.
Soldiers sometimes use tracers as magazine empty markers, but this is not a rule of thumb and as always it just depends on what you need.
NVG's and infrared lasers make tracers somewhat obsolete in modern combat, but you still see them being used.
But if someone else has level1 guns you will see his tracers so tracers are only seen from level1 or higher guns <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
O and Daidalos put it into your autoexec.cfg If you don't have one create a new one with notepad and click "save as" autoexec.cfg thats all you need to do then go ingame and get lvl1 guns and shoot blue lines at those wallclimbing lizardograts
Guys, can you post some screenshots with your settings? That's very helpful.

For super awesome green LASOR BOLTS!!
The amount of tracers you will see is directly proportional to the number of weapon upgrades. At lvl1, about every third or fourth bullet is a tracer. At lvl3, half your bullets are tracers. So you can generally tell what upgrades the marine team has if they hose an area down with LMGs or HMGs.
looks nice but is not fair because you see gunfire much better and longer.
the lines also cast from the phasegate.
"seeing" tracers or weapon fire never really saved anyone, in my experience. So it doesn't really make a difference.
on the other hand, nice aimbot proof!

Huh? That's pretty broken grammer, what are you talking
about there? I'm assuming you mean the tracers are good
proofs for aimbots?
I just use tracers because they look cool, and since I'm not an alien
much, it doesn't really matter anyways because I suck as an alien.

just make a autoexec.cfg in your ns folder and put your settings in there, they'll be there forever until you delete them from the autoexec.cfg
them setup in a way that you can't see them very well, but you
can see other peoples. Keep in mind your tracers aren't going
to look like much, just little pinpoints of color.
Also, on combat maps, I don't know if it works like this, but if
you don't have level 1 weapons yet, you might not see your own
tracers. Just a speculation though.
I'll post up my config when I get a screenie of it later.
