<div class="IPBDescription">Good progression</div> <a href='http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4411591.stm' target='_blank'>http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4411591.stm</a>

Good to know there are advances, especially in health and not in warfare. Tsk news. Soon blind people will be able to se, if not better than us. Though what's really fun, is the prospect of getting infared vision, within more advances in the technology. Creepy, but awesome.

    Good news.

I find it amazing how we can get technology to directly interface with our neurons and send signals.

    We can rebuild him.
    We have the technology.
We have the capability to make the world's first Bionic man.
Steve Austin will be that man.
    Better than he was before.
    Better...Stronger...Faster

"Bionic, eh? Let's see HOW bionic." -crack-

    "Right in the Cape Canaverals!"

This is really amazing. Hopefully it really begins working on humans. Technology these days is truly astounding.

this looks specifically to interface with an in place retina. So it probably won't help my brother-in-law (who has one eye) too soon. When his bad eye was removed they left enough of a nerve stump so it can be interfaced with in the future.

Another dude is working on bionic eyes that work directly on the area of the brain that receives optic input, bypassing they eye and optic nerve (the two things that cause blindness 9999999 times out of 10000000) completely, He's already had a test subject who was previously blind able to drive a car, now if only I could remember his damn name. I'm sure somebody else will remember because it was posted on here, but yeah, this other guy is lightyears ahead.

in order to get a clear view of bones he'd need a substantial flow of x-rays from the other side...

I can't wait till I can replace my failing eyes, preferably with technology that doesn't get dammaged looking at CRTs all day.

I could care less about bionic eyes unless they let me shoot sonic/ion death rays or allow me to detect infrared. Or both.

Bionic eyes are cool, but unless I can make them glow red on command i'm not interested.

And where's my damned robot arm! I want a robot arm with hidden missle launchers built into the forearm! And kung fu action!

Yeah I heard about the bionic eye that was directly connected to the brain, bypassing the optical nerves.
But I also heard it was highly risky, given that there could be brain damage caused during surgery.

The newer one (chip in nerve) however looks promising. There aren't many risks involved since it isn't directly affiliated to the brain in any way. I guess it's a bit more time before they plan to do those 3000 millipixel cameras or whatever you call em.

Can't wait until it gets to be developed in the future as an artificial eyeball though. Think of the extended features that could be added in there...like zoom functionality! <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> (I watch too much Ghost In The Shell....)
