The real problem of the game is the fact that marines dominatelate game. They do <i>not</i> degress in technology, unlike the aliens. If given long enough, they will have the top of their tech and can never be pushed off that tier, while the aliens will probably never reach the top of their tech which can be easily toppled into a downhill game for the aliens. The number of players is only an enhancing factor to that problem, making it more apparent.
The sole reason you lost was because it was <i>long and drawn out.</i> End game was in marines favor against all odds, while the beginning game was still equally balanced.
I guess if the Marines actually lost research when the structure was destroyed, then it would be easier to end the game. Heh, I play on a server where it's the aliens that usually have the upper hand, and it's a 13 vs 13 server...
Altho marines can also whoop some serious butt with some unusual tactics (which amusingly enough involves a lot of electrifying) if done correctly...
This version is the most flexible so far if you ask me...only quirk is the usual fade blink issue which IMO needs some insane fixing, and the ohnoes still being a bit of a paperbag even with level 3 carapace at 3 hives and can get gunned down by 1 HMG...
Apart from that, it all depends on how you play the game (and a bit of skill)...skill isn't as important anymore...a good communicating team that isn't that skillful can still win with relative ease IMO...

besides, while an useful means of preventing "NinjaPhases" from going up so easily, oc's really arent the only way to fight this problem (that is, if you see it as a problem xd) : scout. recon. patrol. whatever you want to call it, the idea is the same: run around hives and check corners. you dont need a team for that either, you can do it yourself as a skulk if youre for some reason not out killing rt's.
