Plz help
I was playing NS and my game froze, which happens from time to time, and so I restarted my computer.
When it got back, I can't use any of my .exe files or any other file for that matter.
Somehow the internet still works because I followed a help box in windows and it brought it up. I can't use any online virus scans b/c I'm use firefox and nothing supports it.
My Norton Antivirus software won't load nor will my ad-aware program.
I can't seem to be able to do anything.
Plz any suggestions that don't involve reformatting my comp, that's my last ditch effort.
Oh and if i try to download any new software, I can't run those .exe files either

edit: yes I have xp.
You might also try using MSConfig (Start -> Run -> "msconfig"), going to the startup list and unchecking all of the boxes. If that works, you can run an antivirus program and hopefully get rid of it. I recommend Housecall.
Side note: Norton sucks. Go with AVG, or PC-Cillin(you have to pay for this one)

If you really want to, after you format, you can install a virus scanner on your computer and scan the CD before you copy the files over.
I'd do what 6john suggested, backup and format.
Sad thing is, it does it to everything.
The registry didn't recognize the .exe file formats so I had to go and change it.
Thanks for the help.
Here's what you do
Step1) Try to run an exe- tell me the SPECIFIC error you get
Step2) If you are on a home network, GET THE HELL OFF OF IT! Do NOT infect your other computers! Do NOT burn to CD, because unless you have a TOP of the line antivirus, it will go right back on (AVG AntiVirus is great AND free)
I will tell you step 3 after this
I use Mozilla too... go online and get the EXACT url from the site, then open IExplorer and run it through that... SHOULD work
If worse comes to worst... I'll contact you via phone and try to guide you thru either a full reformat or perhaps, if you dun mind spending time, I could try to dig up my memories of DOS manuvering and check my XP Dir's and files vs yours, to see if anything is suspicious
But it ALMOST sounds like your corrupted a boot file or something when you did the hard shutdown

How is it that he posted saying he fixed the problem, yet people keep asking him what the problem is?
