<img src='http://www.donhopkins.com/home/Evolve.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

Will Wright's newest game, revealed today at the Game Developer's conference. Entitled Spore, the game promises to be (in a word) unique. From the article: "Wright's latest creation spans the rise of a space-faring civilization from its humble beginnings in the primordial soup.

I liked this game a lot the first time I played it.

    When it was called SimEarth.

If it was fun then, an update on it would be awesome.

    [edit] DAMN!!! not quick enough!

Yes, but did you buy the original? I still got the huge box with equall huge manual and 3.5" install disks.

Ah but in simEarth thats where it ends. While in this game this is where it begins. I think the earlier stuff was a step by step tutorial.

Oh and it has crazy compression. Rumors say a 5000:1 compression ratio. (slashdot rumors). "Wright has teamed up with European demo coders to assist the game's design, capitalizing on their reputation for putting together amazing amounts of content in the smallest data space possible."

He's gonna get everything procedurally coded. That means we'll be actually be able to view galaxies D: down to their individual planets and then zoom closer.

Just got back from GDC and have a story for yall.

A video of Will Wright's speech was planned to be replayed in the GDC theater at 12:30 (only 2 hours after the speech was made) for those who missed it. It's common for major speeches to be shown this way. So word is spreading around the show floor that Will Wright's speech was the best thing EVER and the theater is packed. At 12:29 a volunteer announces, "Due to copyright policies with EA and bla bla bla, we will not be able to show Will Wright's speech." Everybody booed and left angry!

So if EA is trying to shut up Will Wright about a speech he just made... it HAD to have been good.

Blobby, there is a copy of the notes of the speech in my last post.

Dammit Metalcat took my idea. Well I'll elaborate. Wright should make a game called Creationism vs. Darwinism and totally bias it toward Darwinism. Which means that at the beginning of the game, all your underlings will be killed by the simplest of objects, but once you research "<i>Warning Labels</i>" in the Information Age, you'll be able to outsmart natural selection.

you know, I think it so very odd that people take every opportunity to take a crack at Christians, especially with Darwinism. Do they even know that Darwin was studying to be a priest at the time of his voyage and was trying to determine God's method of creation?

edit: he also included situations in which his theory would fail. Which have been largely ignored.

I just think people should research what they claim to know.

I looked at the picture, thought WTH?! Now, I look an hour later and it make sense. The concept also bores the hell out of me.

I think EA must have realised that Will Wright is far too intellegent and talented to be allowed to represent EA games, so they had to silence him.

Crappy clone sports games aside, Will Wright is what keeps EA in business.
