I've searched, still not working well..
How would I play NS on a LAN without Internet (or without authenticating or trying to update)
I've done the following:
Installed HL fromt the CD
Downloaded the patch: ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/pub/gameaholic...cial/hl1110.exe
Installed NS (I had to point it at my "E:\Sierra/Half-Life" directory
Now I can launch NS, but when I create a game (listen server) when I have internet disabled it works fine, if I enable internet then HL/NS gives a message my NS executable is out of date and it tries to update through the old Sierra update system (which won't work )
At the upcoming LAN at my friend we will have internet, so if we turn off the LAN connection in WinXP and create a game it will work, but we'll have to keep switching it off and on all the time.
Is there a working workaround?
I'm trying to create a NS server package that I can put on a CD as an executable so my friends can install it quick and easy.

If you have, then you could connect the provided CAT5 cable to one of them, and your local connection to the other, but why would you want to do that?
All you'll get is the ability to play NS with one other person.
The only time you should be using the WON server for NS is if you're hosting a LAN, without an internet connection at all. Seeing as you're going to a LAN with a net connection, then you really should be using Steam for your connection basis.

The WON method only works with a non-internet connected server, which you've already found out, as NS v.3.0F will try to communicate with the Steam network, as all mods that are designed for Steam will try to do.
I'd suggest that you ditch the idea of going to the internet connected LAN, with the firm intention of making a WON server, as you won't be able to do it, not without disconnecting your internet connection, and hooking up a CAT-5eX cable to yours, and your mates computers. Seeing as everyone there will be using Steam, they wouldn't be adble to connect anyway (Trust me, I've tried the WON server/Steam client setup, and it kicked me out every time)

Well, I think the setup will be simple:
-switch
-pc's of my friends connected to the switch
-server of one of my friend hosting it all
I did see someone saying in the #NS channel that it is possible with CS 1.6 .
My purpose is to make a step by step guide and my own NS LAN package for easy use.
The only time when you need the WON server up and running is at a non-internet connected LAN event, and you already know how to set it up, because you can get it running without an internet connection active. Failing that, if everyone has got Steam, then just make sure everything gets done in offline mode, and make sure that the NS listen server is set to "Lan Game" under "Advanced Options".
You *are* setting it to "LAN Game", aren't you?
Has worked fine for everytime i have gone to my friends house with my computer. Once you are in NS just start a game as normal.. You don't need the internet to play.
