That is the smiley of the very big grin of happiness FTW. It was lots of fun! I can't wait to see it on Source, I felt enough like I was part of a real party even in the HL engine. Imagine the realism on Source :o

The zombies need the ability to groan though (if they don't already) <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Yeah.. ZP is pretty awesome. Its a shame the HL release was living off the scraps of other mods for weapon models and such <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
(Hell, even some of the maps were.. second hand..)
Hopefully the team will manage to strike the interest of certain talented individuals and come up with something a little nicer in the art department this time around.

and for those of you who don't know ZP, its a Zombie mod for Half-life. But not the generic "omg co-op vs zombie horde" mod. Basically you start with 1 zombie and a team of suvivors, and as the survivors die, they respawn as zombies. Sure, Brain bread had player zombies, but they could become human again after killing some NPCs. ZP is more about survival and teamwork.

The website can be found at <a href='http://www.zombiepanic.org/' target='_blank'>http://www.zombiepanic.org/</a>

    Thank you Merkaba <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I also enjoy Brainbread from time to time, Its more of a "blast everything that moves" game rather than survival horror, and gets repetetive after a while. (Not to say ZP doesnt have its faults. It has quiet a few)

    I'm personally waiting for "No More Room in Hell" for Hl2 <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Zombie Panic is a good mod though it's dev team has some problems. The playtest team had even more.

I'd like to congratulate the ZP team on making a nice mod... but I can't because I was making a similar mod I decided to stop doing when I found out about ZP because I didn't want people comparing the two :p

Anyone heard about "Stubbs the Zombie"? Its a commercial game that looks like pretty dark humour. You start off as a zombine and can rip off peoples arms and beat them with it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> I was reminded of it when PCZone dropped through my door this morning.

ZP has a great sense of teamwork, even more so than NS. It's not that you have a gun, but you also need ammo. The ammo also has to be a right type as well. Holding too many guns make you move slower, although you have increase firepower. So the premise in the best situation would be for everyone to grab every gun/ammo, somehow contact each other to meet and exchange each other who gets what. Sadly, it's a rare thing for this to happen in games.

I wish zombies could have a larger variety of attacks or abilities. But that might result in people wanting to be zombies!

Yes, it is a fun game to play when you're with some people you know.

not a good game. especially when people don't play it right. all they do is get the guns and hide in a corner. like that map with the trains. just hop through the window and go to that little corner. the whole team just goes there and waits for a zombie to come.

rinse and repeat till they don't have ammo anymore and it's game over.

Thats a problem with the players, not the game. (Although its up to the mapper to make sure there arent any nasty camp spots)

I think it would be bad form to redesign a game around the people who <i>cant</i> play it properly.

And NS is a bad game because people rambo and die and don't contribute a lot to the team. Pretty much exactly the same principle, but we all know NS is not a bad game.

The trouble in ZP (from what I gather of all my 3 hours of playing ^_^) is that players don't realise (or care) how valuable they are to the team. Nor that by using powerful guns for their own selfish survival (via the method you described) they are robbing their teammates of valuable support which can't be gotten any other way. So you have a situation where lots of team members have nothing but pistols, then crowbars, and then are dead, while one or two guys are camping and taking down increasing streams of zombies and are unlikely to ever win (I never saw a human win when this was happening).

Sure you could argue that a good game wouldn't allow a situation like that to happen, where one team member screws up the game for everyone else (though it's relatively fun even then), but it's a survival horror game, stretch your imagination! Those people are the ones in the movies who think they have the best idea of looking out for #1, hoarding all the supplies and goods, when in the end they're the ones who get taken down harshest of all (with hoards of zombies after their flesh).

Honestly the amount of survival horror style situations I have seen in ZP is quite surprising considering the relatively simple nature of the game concept <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Everyone has their own opinion. For me, Zombie Panic is much more thrilling, and yeah, realistic. BrainBread, as previously mentioned, is like a kill everything you see. It's not that thrilling, more like turning you into a zombie - click, kill, click, headshot, click, click, click, kill, click...

Zombie Panic is very fun, although if you simply encourage teamwork, you can easily win. People with more powerful guns often give their other ammo to those who need it. Also, the Panic button is your friend. There's nothing more thrilling than walking into a room full of zombies, and running the hell away as fast as you can, hoping that you don't get eaten (or karate-chopped?).

ZP also has an objective game-mode. The maps have a "zpo_" prefix, although due to the lack of servers most of them are nearly always full and its sometimes hard to get on.

The objective mode basically encourages Survivors to complete objectives, cutting down on the camping, and usually making the humans work together a bit more often.
The objective can be anything from reaching a certain point in the map, or blowing open a door to escape. zpo_nation has a rather explosive objective, for instance.

And Merkaba, Zombie Panic: Source could do with some mapping talent. Or at least someone who doesnt associate "Atmospheric" with "pitch black corridors" <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I'm really glad people are enjoying our mod. I know it's rough around the edges, and doesn't have a lot of flash, but I feel like the concept and gameplay is there, and getting better all the time.

I really wanted ZP to capture that desperate "Last man alive" feeling. We try to focus on a lot of the atmospheric and mood stuff because of that, like not being able to see death messages, and not knowing how many humans are still left, and the voice-comm being distance limited so that you don't know if other humans are out of earshot when they don't answer, or just dead.

We're working hard on the HL2 version of ZP, and are already testing an internal Alpha (Very basic, but you've got to start somewhere). We do need talented people to help out if possible.

We especially will be needing servers. For some reason, HL1 ZP has only about 6-9 servers at any one time. It's odd, because you see other mods with about 11 players and 35 servers, and we have around 40-60 players at any given time, and about 7 servers.

Hopefully the HL2 version will be better in that regard.

We do have other zombie abilities planned (Such as grapple. Imagine watching in horror as a zombie grabs your friend from behind and drags him into a vent, or off a ledge.)

The HL2 engine will allow us to emphasize the horror and mood of things more than ever before, so we're very excited!

    Thanks again!

ZP's nice but it suffers from the same problem as Brainbread, Vampire Slayer and Underworld...... not enough tolerable players to fill a server.

so u like dead/dying zombies eh? If u own UT2004 try Killing Floor, same basic zombie pwning action, done in an incredibly dark and rusty place, with more polies, better physics, and more general gruesomeness.

Still a beta, but ive been following it for a while, and the next version is gonna own.

Well I have a summer free of uni-induced stress, so as long as other projects allow I would love to have a go at making a ZP map on Source <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> This probably isn't the proper place for this but I'll mention it as ZP devs are likely to read it here anyway, but I hope on ZP:Source that you add something like Silent Hill's film grain effect to make the screen more gritty and horrifying.
