Incredibly premature, but...
I wonder if flay will accept community made maps for ns2. Obviously, the vast majority of the maps, and all single player maps, will be made by team members.
Basically, what I'm wondering is, will ns2 custom maps be done like those for starcraft and similar games, where they can only be found on 3rd party sites, or will they include select community maps in patches/official map packs?
For any other professionally developed game, this would be almost unheard of, but, due to UWE's history and the fact that most NS maps are made by community members, not devs, I wonder.
And if they will be accepting them, I can't wait to find out what engine they pick.

And that would be a problem.... why? I know I would be thrilled to have a map in a commercial game. Getting paid to do it would just be icing on the cake, so to speak.
Compensation for that stuff would be nice, but I don't think thats going to happen. At least I can't think of a game which has actually done that, normally it's just permission and recognition that is asked and given...
Whereas in other Mods/games you might be looking for a particular theme to run through your maps, NS has proved that even with a texture set that could limit the variety of visuals, the mapping community constantly reinvigorates these textures, using them for completely different styles.
This is why we don't have a mapcycle consisting mostly of Eclipse clones. If the NS Mapping team wasn't sufficiently staffed for the follow-up they (but more importantly we) would end up with a stagnated and monotone set of maps.
Community-made maps are what keeps the creative juices running, and it's not just the UbarMappars who inspire others. I can think of plently of themes, brushwork styles, etc. that I've noted down from beginner mappers who obviously have creative flair in abundance but haven't got enough experience with Hammer to translate that into perfection.
Without the mapping community the standard and variety of NS maps would suffer significantly.

That's me, right there, minus the 'creative flair'
I hadn't even considered compensation, just to have my name in the credits of a commercial game, even post-release, would be huge, both in a personal sense of accomplishment, but also as something on a resume. Hell, I'd pay them to get my map into NS2.
That said, there's no way any of my maps will ever make it in, but I can dream...
I would love to see NS2 keep it's predessecor's ties to the community. A game company that constantly listens to and acts upon it's players comments and suggestions is every gamer's dream, especially when a community like this one is giving the advice.
