<div class="IPBDescription">its showing my C: drive O.o</div>I ran into something really wacky today w/ Steam's update monitor. Where the banner ad should be it had an Explorer process looking at C:\. I could scroll the menu and click the directories on my drive and everything. Odd.

If I'm not mistaken, its possible to do that if the banner ad had an activeX control in it or something... honestly I don't know a whole lot about MS specific technologies.... But even then it would be pretty weird.

    o_O

The question is: <i>how major</i> a putz up is it? This kind of thing hints at bugs which lead to loopholes which lead to security exploits.

the kind of putz that sinks battleships, makes loopholes in spacetime and explodes entire galaxies founded around the basic prinicples that is cheese.

I am willing to bet that it was simply one of the "sponsors" putting in that little toy that makes a webpage point to your HDD.

Actually, it's surprisingly easy. I'm sure you've all seen the sites that claim "I HAVE STOLEN UR C: DRIEV OLOLO"
    <iframe src="c:"></iframe>
    That's it. Silly Internet Explorer.

And that will accomplish what? We've shown Steam Friends to Valve and that's remained unfixed for about a year now...

That's not really a big deal. There should be a file called download.htm or .html and it shows the website url for VALVe's download content servers. Just find download.htm in your steam folders and fix it to another site. Done.
