WTH??

i was just looging for some NS play and i notice in the steam news a new mod,made for HL2.i have only HL1,but i read the news,and visited the site.and then i just cant believe.the game seems to me just like a stupid copy os NS.

i needed some ansers.is that game somehow involved with the NS game?is it a un-official NS->HL2?i think not.and im very sad about this... and angry!! <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    If you had visited the site for longer than 20 seconds, you would have realised that its really not anything like Natural-Selection.

    Bwuahahaha!

    I was just looking at that. It's supposed to be a commercially released source engine game.

    Guess someone is gonna share the NS2 market. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Isn't this mod (or a version of it) built for UT2K4?

    Its for UT2003/2004, but they have just announced a version for the source engine. And it looks great!

    It was an overhead shooter in Ut so not really similar to ns.

    The idea of aliens vs. marines isn't new, and NS wasn't the first game to try it. And apart from that, it's nothing similar to NS at all.

    Halfast, the first version of Alien Swarm came out a little under a year ago, if I recall correctly, on the UT2003 engine. It's a top-down game in which you DIRECTLY CONTROL a squad of marines. Left click moves, right click fires. You are attacked by swarms of identical, poorly-modeled aliens and you must complete an objective such as turning on a generator or blowing up something.

    This bears very little sembelance to NS. Besides, who said competition is bad?

    I hate these threads... I can't believe NS has its own horde of fanboys.

    As I've said before, NS is a rip of Aliens, StarCraft, Predator... just about any sci-fi thing that came before it. =P

    I'd say it most heavily borrow ideas from StarCraft, which heavily borrowed ideas from Aliens. OMG, creative people ripping each other off? NEW CONCEPT.

    =P

    This game is obviously a rip-off of NS. It's just that the gameplay, graphics, sounds and concepts have been changed.

    OMG THEY STOLE OUR FLAMER!

    Seriously....no. I suppose it's kinda similar to Commander gameplay...except you're commanding relatively intelligent marines who actually go where you tell them to go and do what you tell them to do. Yeah, nothing like NS at all.

    "Alien swarm" is a co-op game against "run straight at you in hoards" AI, the game really is meant to be used with each player controling about 1 unit, but you can offline play and control the whole team (or simply set the other to follow).

    while ns is a competive team fps, alien swarm is a co-operative top down twitch shooter, really ratherdifferent, and both worth being on your "most played" list.

    the alien swarm playing community is critically small, rarely more than 20 players online, and its a crazy thing, hopefully going onto an engine where players are more likely to seek out mods will allow them to rise from criticaly accliamed to publicly whorshipped <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->.

    I love AS, IT IS AWESOME. There isn't a lot of people playing AS, so thats why I don't really play it. It does get boring after a number of the same stages again, then I switch back to NS <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    the only similarities i can spot are, human vs aliens, atmosphere, command view. and i'm sure NS wasn't the first to have these. but it does look like a promising game with a hell lot of fun packed into it.

    Acronyms are really getting on my nerves on this forum because people use them for everything. Not everyone has a vocabulary of 20+ online acronyms.

    EDIT - That was directed at everyone, not DarkFrost. Just seeing DarkFrost's "idd" and having no idea what he is saying tipped the scales.

    Quoted the first guy to pretty much echo my view on this.

    NS is a new concept that is made up of a combination of old concepts. In Gaming these days there are no completely new concepts. The novelty is pretty much taken from film and literature, tabletop gaming and used to facade an already existing game genre (or combination).

    I'd really like some of the older games to be revisited, people need to know where all of these 'new' games are getting their ideas from. Despite possibly sounding a bit pompous, I will freely admit that I am humbled by the sheer number of gaming greats that I still am yet to play.

    [Edit] Amped!, isn't there a thread on these forums that explains a lot of online gaming (and perhaps forum) speak. Maybe you should head on over there <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
