actually 3d exploration isn't TOO bad, it can render somewhat decently, open a large number of file types, and last I saw cost $30. Problem is that xsoft dosen't support it anymore, and it was a wonder I even found a download for its shareware version.

Well, I finally got some time to finish up the phasegate. The current PC is 2069. I arbitrarily set my poly budget at 2000, so I'm a bit over that, but not so much that I'm worried about it. I'm going to start skinmeshing this, but I can still make some minor changes to the model if anyone has any useful crits.
I don't like the handle you have on the, for lack of better terms, nuclear box. Seems too flimsy to me. Make it a big arse thick handle. Chunky is good!
Also an issue with me is the lights. In my mind they don't really protude out of the panels. I think you're better off saving polys by leaving them out and letting the skin take care of that detail.

It's going... I'm busy meshing Demi's armory right now, 'cause I told him I'd do it before I even started on the phasegate. I'm not very fast, and I have other responsibilities that take priority, so it could be a while before I finish. But rest assured, I am still working on it.

@cortex: I'd love to have indentations for the lights, but it'd cost too many polys to do. That's one of the tougher choices I had to make with this.

Yes, but "Hi poly" doens't mean "abandon all reason". I could make a 200,000 poly phasegate, but I think everyone would agree that's a little excessive. I chose 2000 polys as a budget for this phasegate, and that's what I've come close to.
I'm working on the phasegate now as hard as I can. I got Demi's armory finished, but nobody seems to want to touch that. Now that I know you're still interested in the phasegate, I can redouble my efforts.
aww your "redoubling"(?!?!?!) you efforst jsut for me thank you your the best i <3 you i wonder how ur gonna uvw unwrap the grill or whater u wanna call it but i have an idea if the way urs is isnt good but urs will msot likly be god enough i hate unwraping stuff but ive gotten better at it

textures with transparency
what a polywaste !

P.S. 600th post.
How many times must I say NO
Its <i>high poly</i>, get over it.

i think he means to flatten them so they look more like this: <!--c1--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1--> ______
