First off I'd like to extend my apologies in advance if this topic has already been dismissed but after a search I could not find any thread relating to MvM maps.
What are the thoughts of Flayra and the NS team on MvM / AvA maps?
Are there any plans to introduce support for said maps?
The plugins that "hack" co maps to allow MvM are ok but I am curious to know if a server not running AMXX will be able to run MvM / AvA maps in the future?
A penny for your thoughts. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

But I think it was just idiotic fun.
It's fun for about 2 round..
*Heads to CS forums*
Nevermind the "backstory", the "story" is ridiculous anyway. If they wanted to do this, they'd just make up some hokey run-on paragraph about "nanites" and "simulators" and yadda yadda, and bam... you've got MvM in official NS.
Anyway, does anyone have any REAL knowledge on what the devs have said regarding this? Assumption and speculation are fine, but the original thread asked for the official stance, not what you think it is or would be. =P
Let's not forget the ever accurate Pistol, even while moving 600 MPH
Why do you always have to be so cryptic? <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Eh...
I think they should get actual playmodes for MvM and AvA, since then people might make GOOD maps for them, other than the horde of crap MvM maps that have textures that are just slapped on, and goop(though I actually have an almost releasable AvA map...).
As for AvA I don't see that working the way the story line was made unless the Bacterium isnt all peachy with itself. MvM sort of makes sense if you had another human faction, but if you wanted that you could go play Savage. Which is just NS with 2 human sides if I remember correctly.
Marines are attempting experiments on them, and have created Kharaa that are hostile to the original?
I don't see any reason to explain away AvA or MvM maps, they'd just be interesting/fun. =P
Who cares why they exist?
BTW, jetpack mods for CS don't count as CS doesn't inherently have jetpacks. That's like saying NS is CS if someone made an AWP mod.
Well firtsly MvM. Picture a really crappy DM game, and thats what you got.
AvA could have been ok, but the maps ive played on, only one team got a working hive, which was a huge advantage as the other team didnt get hive healing, so it didnt really work.
If you can't tell the difference between CS and NS-MvM, why are you playing NS? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
better than that... can we have a marines vs marines or aliens vs aliens NS "classic" match? with rescource gathering and upgrades? having to gorge to build a deffencive chamber and having skulk rush you... and your 4 sensory chamber cloaked off chabers *chuckles*
or the constant back and forth ground battle of 2 marine forces desperately trying to get enough rescources to get the protolab so they can mount a jetpack gl rush.
what if we take this AvsA and MvsM action and actually intergrate the best (rts) aspect of ns.
the people demand!

n and c are on the same row on the keyboard.. <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
but.. if a small number of players (or ai)were assigned turrets or "bot" control with a priority of protecting a mainframe, from both teams, that attacked both teams... thats one hell of a wildcard.
a) it has nothing to do with the background of ns
b) the idea was to have 2 "different" lifeforms...not 2 that are the same just a different colour
Yes perhaps are MvM maps...funny. I played them for about 3 rounds...
So...if you like them do so. But i hope they wont implent it...because it wouldnt make sense at all.
The reason we won't do it the 'easy' way is that there really is no easy way. I'm familiar with the AMX plugins, and agree that they're fun for a little while, but the marines are currently, oh wonder, geared against the aliens. JPs, for example, suddenly don't look that good if your enemy relies on ranged weapons. Any approach to an 'official quality' MvM mode will therefore require significant reworking, or the addition of another side fitting into the marine's current gameplay profile. Both are monomentous tasks, and therefore not on our list for immediate or mid-range inclusion. In other words, patience, please.
MvM is fun, but an onos shoudl never be able to eat an onos, and no sieges.
But I want to devour an onos that already devoured another onos. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
skulks vs marine is the marines range and distance vs the skulks speed and quick damage rate
the skulk shotgun scenario relys on a similar setup with a greather focus on patients on the marine, and rytheming on the skulk.
hmg vs skulk is like lmg vs skulk with a raw power advantage on the marines hand, while the marine is followed by a loooooooooong reload time he still has a pistol (redeemable for 1 skulk kill before 9.00pm at any participating NS maps.)
so... that in itself in a wide range of dynamics.. AvsA and MvsM remove them.. and bring in "sniperfest" and "hitbox supreme".
but thats just for CO, i think true NS "classic" style X vs X would bring a real skill based meat grinder for marines, and a slightly crazy rushfest for aliens, but the gorge would have the odd position of being utterly vunerable (more than he ever is in a normal ns match) but a huge source of power, those uber fades gotta get res from somewhere.
aliens could have 4 (or more)available hive locations 2 at oposite ends always the starter, and when you push an enemy out of a hive, you can lay it...
and if nothing else... fade vs fade blink jousting... ever try it on a friendly fire server?
I don't really see what I'm cryptic about right now, but it goes back to the current consensus in the dev forum <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
