I don't understand, my ping is very good, usualy around 15 - 30

But whenever 2 or more jet packers start flying around, especially when shooting shot guns, game LAGS LIKE HELL. ping goes as high as 400!!!!!!!! No jet packers, ping goes back to 15.

My connection is 1500kbps ADSL, downloads at 150k/seconds.

What could be the problem???

I think it might be your video card. Jetpacks when in use draws lots of those gas decals, which might lag your computer. Probably not enough video memory or something. That's just my guess.

It's rare for my to get such low pings and my connection is 3mbit, so I doubt it's your connection.

Well, I have something like 512 or 768kb Cable connection and I get 5-20 ping on my favourite servers! They are pretty close to where I live too though...

To Reyn : Do your FPS also drop when you see those JPers? IF you don't know how to check that, open the console and type net_graph 3 : A little indicator will appear in the lower-right corner indicating your FPS, ping (in miliseconds) as well as loss and choke packets. Check if those two also go up when you see the JPers!

    Keep us informed!

    Man I'm using X800Pro vivo, AMD64 3000+ , 1GB DDR 400 RAM

I think my Hardware spec is an over kill for NS, I currently have NS graphix maxed out with max AA and AF.

My FPS does not drop when my ping rise. I have a stable 100FPS.

Are you using a wireless router? When I was on a wireless router, it behaved in a similar way. Play with netgraph 3 and look for problems with the in/out loss and choke.

go to steam settings and click on internet and put it on LAN/T1> 1MB
when you run NS, type rate 22500 in console (i think these 2 do the same thing but im not sure, either way it worked for me)

Are you running on OpenGL or Direct3D? Sometimes if I use Direct3D I get weird lag spikes, even though my system is more than powerful enough.

I think I fixed it, changed my rate to 99999999999

what is this rate thing anyway???

The max. rate at which data is sent and recieved from/to your client from the server. Basically, Steam has a tendancy to automatically set it for you, which isn't good. IIRC though, the actual max. rate is 9999 - anything over that still registers as 9999...

    the maximum should be 20000
