The NS development team is currently looking into doing a Source version of NS, in several interviews with flayra, he has stated there will most like be (if not 100% confirmation) a Natural Selection: Source. there is no current date when it will be released.
Next time use the search button, it is a valuable tool.

Least he phrased it differently than all the other newbies do.
"omg they should make this half-life2 ololololo!!!!11111"
I still don't understand why they can't just create a sticky in yellow\red letters that reads "NS: Source Information" or something similar
but its not my forum :-/ <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif' /><!--endemo-->

To make it look better and perform better prehaps? Maybe they want to make it all over again because of the new options they can use now? I don't think the team would want to just port it over when they can make the game so much better if they remake it on the new engine.

Honestly i don't know why their already worrying about new features rather than updating all the textures\models\skins\animations\ etc... for the new version. That should be more than enough work, almost like doing a whole new game.
Once all that is done and its working good on source engine, THEN they should start thinking about new features.
EDIT: Another option they could do just to get it done sooner is "port" as much of it they can over to source the way it is. Then update with patches after that. Think HL: Source ... although i'm sure a lot of the levels would have to be re-lit and physics would have to be taken into consideration. Still a pretty big task.

I just hope they don't add those annoying barrels to maps, wouldn't you love it as a skulk running away and you bounce off a barrel which stops you dead in your tracks. Not to mention dead anyway.

You actually have to draw it with penciles and stuff so you can't say it is low quality. Look at the concepts on the main page. I think they look pretty good and the gorge looks actually quiet dangerous but when they model the characters for the game they have to change the quality because the hl1 enginge models are low quality. If you would make the game for source, you would use just the same concepts and artworks, just make it better than they are in hl1.
I don't have an idea about that, maybe you are right.
I remember in an interview that they are porting this to Source. What they're planning to do IIRC, is just a straight port to get a working version onto the Source engine first, and then they start working on the artwork and other media.
In short: We are porting to Source, and have begun work on it.
Slightly more elaborate: We have determined that the big bottleneck will indeed be the art assets (textures, models, animations, etc.). Our first preliminary research has been concluded - we now have a rough idea of what has to be redone in how much detail. Thus begins the conception of single items - asking ourselves questions such as what additional details we should integrate into the new marine model, and so on. So, as you can see, it's getting nearer, but still a long way off.

<b>Nemesis Zero</b>, do you have a rough estimate as to when any beta will be available to the public? Are you going to do something similar to the Natural Selection 3 betas, then move to a final release?
I'm happy with the current NS, any new one will be a huge change, so I'm expecting it to take a year or two at least.
I'd be completely fine with it takeing a year or two. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

If I remember correctly, at the start of the year Flayra said he expected NS:S to go beta in the Summer. He also said that they will be releasing patches more often (but with less content), so NS:S won't die like NS did over chrstmas 2004.
I think, realistically, we will have to wait until xmas 2005 (or maybe October 31st 2005- it would be a nice way to mark NS's 3rd birthday).
