I'm at work here, with a customers PC. He wants me to format the machine and install XP. Problem is, it's the russian version. And I can't speak a lick of Russian.
But, seeing as Ive installed XP English so many times before, I figure I can just do it by memory. I put the CD in, start the machine and woops, this doesn't look right. It's taken me to a menu to install XP, 98 and about 4 other options I can't read (at least, this is what I think it's asking <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> ). I choose the XP option, and it just goes to a black screen with the flashing cursor in the top left and does nothing.
Upon examining the CD case more, this doesn't appear to be a legit copy of XP. So my question is, has anyone installed Russian XP before, and is it supposed to be the same as the English install?

Ask him where he got a brand new PC with a Russian XP, and why he directly brought it to the States.
That aside, do as others have suggested, install in english, and then get a russian pack, but put on a german pack as well and have fifty percent in russian and fifty percent in german.
Err.. no, don't/
Me personally? No.

Why german? Just because we are evil doesn't mean we have illegal software... yes well actually most of us have.. but my XP is legal... though I don't paid anything for it ^^
and you, sir, happen to have a copy of the MSDN windows installer package in russian, set of discs valued at over four thousand dollars. if it's shiney and has ms logos, you're golden. if not, get rid of that disc. it's hotter than hell
