afaik, there is not sure way to 'cover up' datat with a simple program, seeing as how true HDD data recovery tech's use and O-Scope to recover the data. Ive seen data recovered off a laptop HDD that had been run over by a car using an O-Scope. DESTROY IT!

I had a piece of software that would delete files overwrite the space with garbage data then delete that ad nauseam took about 3 hours to do one small file, then I thought "why the hell do I need this?" and stopped using it.
I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the software no doubt it was some "eLITe HaCKeR" tool I got in my youth but sounds like thats what you want.

I'm pretty sure I read that in order for a magnet to COMPLETELY screw up your hard drive, it would be so powerful that you'd have to use it in an empty airplane hangar (or something of equal size) to avoid damaging anything else.
As opposed to zero writing, I do suggest writing with random data generated from entropy pools like the linux kernel can create. Doing that many times not only screws your data, but makes it harder to determine if it was written over or original data.
