<div class="IPBDescription">::vampire::</div> Muwahahhaa, geuss what i did today? i went to the blood service place and i donated blood! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

it was great, they took all my blood and now i'm a vampire, well, ok, that's an exageration, they took 450ml, <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

i got cookies and juice and everything, and i did something good for other people, i feel so happy! glee! i got a fancy pin and everything (picture attached) i'll definately be going back in 56 days to donate again. they said the little finger "poke" was the worst part but they lied, my veins run deep and they had ti stick the needle in deeper then usual, it stung a little bit, but it barely hurts anyway. have any of you fellow NS'ers donated blood? and if so, why? i did it because.. well, no reason, it's just a good thing to do, hell, i have blood, it comes back, it doesn't hurt to give it to others for when they need it. as it turns out my blood isn't just going to someone for a transfusion, apparantly the blood gets split into three different components involving the platelets (spelling) and all the other parts of blood, so it can help three people, so it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy :3

if anyone has any questions about the whole thing go ahead and ask em, and i'd like to hear your guys'es opinions on the subject. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

(the writing on the pin says "Canadian Blood Services First Time Donor"

    Definitely a worthwhile thing to do, I do it as often as possible which, sadly isn't often enough <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> Reason for doing it? Because I want to, that's all.

    Here's a hint, if you only eat toast for 4 days straight you will be turned away if you try and donate.

    My dad took me along to the blood bank as soon as I was able to donate. To date I've donated 12 times... I think...

    I can squeeze out a pint in 4 and a half minutes. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Squeeze your hand into a fist rapidly to get the blood out faster. See if you can beat my time.

    (warning: you will be lightheaded as all hell when done, so don't drive for a while)

    i think i took about 12 minutes to get my full bag out (i dont know how much a pint is, but i assume its close to 450ml)

    I've already lost enough blood involuntarily. I'd rather not loose any more.

    ive donated once, but I'll definitely go again, free cookies and juice makes the tiny bit of pain worthwhile.

    Assuming you ever had an injury that necessitated a blood transfusion (I would think getting shot in the head counts), you should be happy as heck people donate blood or else you wouldn't have anything to worry about, at all.

    And that pin you got, Spyder, makes you look like a dirty Commie.

    I'm very happy that other people donate their own blood selflessly, but I'd still rather not loose any more of my own blood.

    This is rather unrelated but, I always thought the whole bloodtype - personality relation was interesting.

    I wonder if there's any truth to it? I've never trusted anything like astrology or horoscopes, but I do put some belief in the zodiac system, even if it's more miss than hit so to speak.

    Dunno, the type A fits me at least a bit, then again they are all vague enough and simmilar enough that I could pretty much fit into any.

    Good point. I think that's the basis for all of these systems. Unless you are a polar opposite, you can fit any of these.

    Unfortunately, though I have the body mass, I'm not allowed to donate. The USA has very irritating rules about... er.. 'extracurricular activities', even if blood tests have come back clean.

    Thats right, you can only donate to other people with the AB+ blood type. Any other donations and you would kill the person or at least put them into shock while their body attacks its donated blood.

    I my self have A+ blood, which means I can give to A+ and AB+, but no one else. I haven't donated yet because I'm to young.

    Also its interesting to see how those blood types play into racial stereotypes. IIRC my genetics teacher said that A blood types come from Europe and B blood types come from Asia. Not to say that those types don't mix, but primarily they are found in those regions.
