Although sometimes, I do prefer vanilla combat.
But most of the time, I prefer no combat at all.

Combat is pretty much worthless with the extra levels, the whole point is that you dont get points to spend on everything you want. If they get cloaking or silence early then you have to think about getting ping/mt for your next level, but with the extra levels there is no more thinking just do it.
Just make a mod that starts us off at level 50 that would be more interesting.
More available upgrades + increased amount of times you can upgrade = more decisions to be made.
I love combat and have come to love it even more with extralevels2.
For those of you unfamiliar with extralevels2 it adds
<b>For Marines</b>: static field, ethereal tracking, cybernetics, reinforced armor, and nano armor.
<b>For Aliens</b>: blood lust, hunger, exthereal shift, and thickened skin.
The above upgrades usually have requirements. For example: A marine wanting to get static field must first have lvl2 weaps, motion tracking, and ethereal tracking. Another example: For an alien to get thickened skin he must first have regeneration and carapace.
There is a larger and more complex tech tree available for both aliens and marines with extralevels2.
2 for static is okay...
but 2 for cybernetics? thats just rip off
And personally, i dislike these extralevels..
They give way too big advatage to aliens..
1 onos with carapace,celerity,adren & hunger can take out whole marine spawn, in no time.
also, getting bloodlust lvl1 gives you infinite charge, which makes you able to 1hit jetpackers.
and thickened skin..pfft..gives way too much for onos & fades..they become pretty much like immortal, depending on skill of player.
About marine stuff~
Getting static field to max lvl, takes too much time , and when you get it, it's no use for you because aliens either got max lvl of thickened skin or you wont have any other upgrades.
Cybernetics are totally useless.
Same goes for ethreal tracking.
nano & reinforced both are useful, but it takes time to get them at max.
but if we compare these to alien upgrades? Marines wont stand a chance.
Most servers i play co with extralvls, aliens wins 9 games out of 10.
but its still combat. no depth.

Gotta agree with phunktion. Super cybernetics or the never-ending fade blink are fun. Infinite charge/celerity onos has no counter, I don't care what anyone says. Super nano armor/cybernetics JP barely does either. You'll say each side has it's own great class, but the fact is that neither one is gonna kill the other, so it's just a race to kill the enemy structure. My reply to J the battlegorge would apply here. Again, complain to the server ops to balance this plugin, they have the ability to do so.
That being said.. I seriously look for servers that DON'T run it... I like combat at the base 10 level 10-15 minute game... But that's just my opinion.
however the extra levels stuff makes it sometihng that I like every once in a while.
I generaly prefer to play NS, but every so often I want a different game and I head over to an extra levels server.

Thank you. I cannot take the credit for the plugin itself, as Cheeserm developed it. However, I put a great deal of work into porting it to AMX Mod X, and this is where I became educated on it's operation and benefits.
I don't like it, but I play it at a server that runs them anyways.

As per the extralevels2 plugin, I'm not <i>that</i> big a fan, but that's really because I don't play too much Combat anymore (plus, extralevels2 is typically equated with a custom map server, and I don't care for several custom maps). Can't really say it unbalances Combat much, as aliens have been winning <i>long</i> before the plugin became popular.
The extra levels are an interesting idea, but it would take an extraordinary amount of time to tweak it so the balance is just right. Most of the servers that run this have no upgrade/level cap and are 10v10 onos/hmg massacres. These kind of servers take players away from the game itself, and other good servers.
Even if the plugin is capped correctly or balanced I dislike it. I know how many bullets a skulk should die to by experience, I dislike having to adapt to an entirely different game when I join one of the servers running this mod.

I actually think vanilla combat is much better. I remember thinking vanilla was bad, but after playing a bunch more i realized extra levels just seperates the people with the first few kills, makes the aliens overpowered in the long run, and drags games on and on just because everyone has every upgrade.

You fail at the funny.
Some of us actually enjoy combat (when we play it at all) normally. The reason for this is that those extra levels and upgrades add stuff to the game that, quite frankly, levels the playing field far too much. I'm a decent fade, and a damn good pub fade, but I shouldn't have to struggle to kill a single marine with lvl5 cybernetics, jp or no jp. That's just wrong; leave the player in the game long enough, and he'll just outrun everyone who, in any other version of the game, would be better than him. Oh yeah, that's teaching some good lessons to those players. You wonder why no one can properly play an ns_ map anymore...
