Pretty amazing to anyone interested in the Watergate story.

I honestly thought his identity would never be reviled but I certainly wasn't expecting it on some random Tuesday afternoon.

Maybe he wanted some money so wrote a book and then revealed himself so that he could sell it? We'll see.

He's 91, dude. He already had a stroke too; he uses a walker and stuff. I don't see a book deal really.

his nick name came from an old 70's "adult" movie... not sure why they chose that...

Even the government has a hint of perverted thoughts in it.

I thought I laid the title for this topic out very nicely.

Does anyone know exactly why they choose Deep Throat for his nick name?

I was talking to my mother about this yesterday and she said it was because he had a deep, scratchy voice but I think she just made that up to avoid any unnecessary awkwardness

I think it's generally accepted that they took his name from the 70s porn movie, but for what reason, I don't know.

"Deep Throat" is significant because it was the first pornographic movie available to watch in a theatre, supposedly. Or my global teacher lied to me.

Just wanted to confirm the name with myself, for I have never heard of it before now...

Deep Throat" was the mysterious nickname given to W. Mark Felt, the F.B.I. official who secretly helped reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein uncover the Watergate scandal during the presidency of Richard Nixon. Felt's identity was unknown to the public during the scandal and for more than 30 years afterward. Woodward and Bernstein, who broke the Watergate story for The Washington Post, acknowledged only that their informant was a high-ranking official in the executive branch of government. (Because the source insisted on total anonymity and would only talk on "deep background," he was given the nickname "Deep Throat" by Post senior editor Howard Simons, who borrowed the title from an X-rated movie of the era.)

Wasn't the first x-rated movie, but it was one of them, that is quite interesting.

I think if he wanted to cash in he probably would have done it a lot sooner. It's been 30 years. You would think if he was somewhat self-serving he would say after one year "Hey, maybe I should come out and get a book or movie out or something." No. He just did the right thing in a hard situation and didn't say a thing for 30 years, most of us haven't even reached that age of life yet!

Except for Nixon's dishonesty, he was actually a very good President.

It was an old score to be paid off, Deep Throat is not a hero in his intentions.
