Hello And Forum Style Question

is someone working on it?
Hello all, I'm an avid NS player, but this is I think my first post on this new forum.

I was wondering about the forum skin and all that cal, I've read that it is going to be changed to meet the NS website/mod style a bit more, but I haven't heard if someone is doing it or not. I've been tinkering with some stuff, trying to figure out how to modify ib skins and wrappers and such. Not much progress, but I did make a few buttons:

I used some sprites I took from the game, some small icons from the manual, and the "Fedyral" text (it reminds me of Starship Troopers), and made some buttons. Now, would I be wasting my time making buttons and designs for a forum that's already in development by a higher power? I hope not, because I'm just getting into the swing of this.

Any feedback and response is appreciated.

    Those are really nice.

Hmmm....it'd be cool to have both a marine style and alien style. But thats quite a bit of work.

No responce, to say the least.

How hard would it be to use the graphics made for the NS manual?
I think that would make a perfect Forum skin...it already fits the theme and with some more clever liturature even the forums and website could be written into the NS world. Some TSA remote data interface thing! OK now Im just daydreaming But seriously, would it be very hard to use the grphics you already have?

yea it they used the manual graphics most of it would be done u might need to extend some parts but thats about it. then u could chose red or blue. and when u choose red there should be moss or watever the hive green wall thingy stuff (becuase red is aleins )

Then we could have this and that and this oooooo an wat about this but u gotta have dis no dis o and this and that.

i am just talkin **obscenity** and i dont think i have said hello to any1 in these forums yet so i say helllo to u all now becuase i might die before i get to the end ont his msg but who cares anyway becuase i will die int he near near near near further

(On topic: I did start doing some forum graphics in the style of the old forum, but I got so much negative feedback in the form "I hated the old forum colours" that I gave up.)

I was asked if I was a member of Evolutionary Challenged previously. No, I'm not. My clan is a CS clan called Elite Crew. Sorry if it's misleading, but we've been around a while, and I promise we're not copying you.

I'll make some more forum buttons, and see how it goes, maybe I'll get the team's attention if I make enough, you never know.

    Feedback on your buttons:

The Fedyral font is hard to read at small sizes, and especially with the slight blur that is being used.

Buttons normally tend to have a 'depth' associated with them, making them stand out. Not to say that flat ones cannot work, it may just need a bit of thinking over before you jump into a design that will end up not working.

The sprites in Natural Selection are all dimmer than usual because of the in game contrast-ramp. You may need to adjust the levels a bit to give them the same as they have in game.

Those little manual images are horrible. Whoever made those in the first place needs shooting!

    Indeed, Fam, indeed.

I must say, sir, good work on the buttons there, looking tres spiffy. I say keep going with it.

Fam, I agree about the font, I just like it, but I should replace it with one that's clearer. As for the three-dimensional quality, yes I thought of that also, and I am trying to do it within the concept of what I was doing. As for the brightness of things, I can easily remedy that.

Did you think the manual was horrible? I rather liked it, but maybe it's just more my taste. I like that style.

mmm this would make a great contest for the NS art forum, these forums do have a "skin" option just no skins to choose from..

Yeah! It was ugly as hell! We should just banish the guy who did the art for it from the community! Untalented slacker!

Well then I'd like to do it, but honestly, I would have a real problem dealing with all the IB forum stuff. Is there anyone out there willing to work with me? This person would have to have experience skinning for IB forums, and be able to work with me on all things. Of course, it would be a team, both should have input on the others' work. Roscoe? Boobs? You seem to know about forum skins somewhat. Any takers?

I was thinking of doing a Frontiersman skin first, then if things go well, try out a Kharaa skin (which would be harder graphically, I think), as was suggested.

Redesigned original buttons (see first post). Added the user button, testing it out here.

I agree, the forums are not terribly helpful for someone starting out though. They seem to cater more to those who have some experience with it.
