Yahoo! Search Engine

<div class="IPBDescription">Google Copy?</div> I don't know how old this is, but it looked pretty new to me. And I found it by accident too.

<a href='http://search.yahoo.com/' target='_blank'>http://search.yahoo.com/</a>

Yahoo! really is putting the heat on to google now. Look at the upper right corner. Win 5000$ just by adding a piece of Yahoo! on to your website. The war is on!

Call me crazy...but at some point, wasn't Yahoo "powered by Google"?

I remember seeing that awhile back...

I'm not one for trying to win money and prizes off of websites anyway...usually you just end up with nothing but a mailbox full of spam.

yahoo used to be powered by google, but I think that changed last year.

For those of you who are lazy look at this and compare it to your googlized eyes.

    <img src='http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/Bacde/yahoo.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

I think that the google-dominion may soon be crushed.

They still fail, searching for the same thing on each site, yahoo takes a hell of a lot longer to perform and load.

    Why google will always win:

    1. it's google
    2. It has personalized site
    3. it's google
    4. road maps for free
    5. it's goole
    6. yahoo sucks

It just won't happen. Google is... Google. You can't just use a minimalistic design on a search engine and call it Google.

And besides, why would you even bother? Its not like you have to go out of your way to use Google. You don't have to pay anything. So why use a cheap knock off?

Exactly, and I beleive Yahoo is Altavista powered now days.

Google can't be usurped easily. I don't know about anyone else, but one of the first things I do on a fresh OS install is change the browser homepage to google.

It's right up there with turning off system restore and the recycle bin as a *must* in my book.

And if as many people have google as their homepage as I think, you really can't uproot that without being better by at least a factor of 2 or 3 times.

Looking at it all, the layout seems to hit a bit too close to home. Isn't this some sort of infringement on intellectual property?
  • BacdeBacde Join Date: 2004-10-17 Member: 32326Members
It might be. I personally don't think that Yahoo! will ever surpass Google either, but its layout DEFINATELY has been gaining some repitition, to say in the least. I wonder how many other clones there are out there.

One day google might be outperformed, but not in the forseeable future. Google is going to become Dictator of this world soon, they've already taken control of our knowledge (books)

Question: For those of you who know how the Google search engine runs (not by keyword, by some crazy math technology), is Yahoo! running on the same engine?

Yahoo is old skewl. It was the king of searches BEFORE google (if that was even the internet then is argueable <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->). They took a big hit when the bubble burst in the ninties, so i guess they rebounded back to compete.

    Good for them.

I'm still waiting for the Sites/Sounds/Images/Movies/News search engine. A movies search feature would be bandwidth intensive, but oh so useful (if it worked like the google image search, anyway).
