<div class="IPBDescription">o.O</div>So you've all already heard people going "omg omg BF2 stole the NS commandar!" (when in actuality it stole it from the same place NS did, TF2), but I ran across this shot today in the new Gamespot preview.
This is the new system they have to replace the Function key audio menus from previous BF games. You hold down a key and this menu pops up, and you can click each option:

Now where have I seen that before... :P

One of it's style, yes.
Not to mention, its obvious BF2 is implementing it EXACTLY like NS is.
...looks like EA doesn't want to rock the boat, just steal it
It's not as if it's a bad thing this is being used, it's usefull, almost cyber ergonoic with how wasy it is to use, it's agood idea and I'd like to see it in more games.
[edit]In fact, it looks a <i>lot</i> closer to Perfect Dark's weapon select scheme than it does to NS's menu system (which itself resembles Sacrifice's interface quite closely, except that it uses text rather than symbols)[/edit]

Yes they manage to mess it up. In the heat of combat, do you think it's easy to select, say "repair orders" instead of "need supplies"? I manage to do anything on the ns menu with a breeze, and I don't think of the precision needed between a slight angle or a straight line.
And "attack" in the bright center makes me not want to buy this game <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Kinda shows the priority of things <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Anyway great find, cant wait to install this one!!!
I hope there's an option to change it to F key mode.

Blah. There's plenty of menus designed like this in games. It's a quick and convenient setup that works well. If they had a tab for evolving, I'd say maybe there'd be an argument.
Besides, Maya had it first anyway, and a hell of a lot more intricately set up than any of these examples.
Swat3? Rainbow Six? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
ooh, just saw scythe's post. I-War too.
And wait... wall-running, leaping, biting aliens? We need Ripley, people!
There's a notable difference between borrowing and stealing ideas.
Yes. It depends on whether we can make, or lose money as a result of it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

what more can strange alien creatures that are hostile to humanoids do in retaliation to their presense?

I don't remember how the saying goes, but it's something like: a bad developer copy, an okay one imitate, a good one borrow.

Lots of other programs use it though, a couple other games have simmilar pop-up menus, but the closest menu i've found is Maya's Marking Menus.
