Even more bettererer(erer) in ASE is the built-in mod filters that easily let you ping only the servers you need to, without having to go and write custom tabs and filters like GS3D. If I have a hankering to play dod_caen2, it's literally one click away from quickly (i.e a couple seconds) refreshing just those servers. And no ads. And miniscule auto-updates. And lighter. And you're not sending more cash to The Man.
HL browser can't really do any of this, naturally. Which is why they are replacing it with their new HL desktop software in the next patch that you may have seen at a few sites. They have IM and lobbies and all that goofy crap.
And let us never speak of GameSpy Arcade. It is dead to me...
The All-Seeing Eye is great. Perfect for telling other people which server you're on (I don't run HL in windowed mode) and finding just a few servers without having to ping 12,000 servers running de_dust.
It's a shame that it's not free -- after 21 days you have to send in $20. Which is where Gamespy has it beat. I personally don't have $20 that I'm going to send in to use a program to replace something free.

Ive always used gamespy, and ive tried all seeing eye a couple of times, but it has always seemed too complicated. I just like a program that u can boot in seconds, and just pick a server easily, and not have loads of sub menus for different maps and things

GameSpy 3D is the way to go. I love it and have been using it for like ... 7 years or so (thats back in the days of Quake kiddies). However ... avoid GameSpy Arcade like the ####### plauge. ITS THE DEVIL!
