<div class="IPBDescription">Name yours</div> So I read the pinned CPU-performance topic but that was rather confusing and there were conflicting statements. So which kernel and which configs are best for ns?
I'd also like to know which HZ-value is the best and whether to turn "Preemptible Kernel" on/off. And some sysctl-tweaks'd be nice too. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
For the kernel I wonder which pachset should I use. Currently I'm using gentoo's own. I'd like to install a named patches rather than 20 different patches. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Thanks. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

See my sig for my guide website.
In the pinned topic there was this:
<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->HZ settings should be 1000 or atleast 500, this is due to the fact that HL needs more clock cycles that a db server. So, in short, turn off pre-emption, bump HZ to 1000, enable "Use register Arguments", :MTRR support", use ACPI if you have it.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
But your guide tells me to lower my HZ (which hopefully helps, since now I have 1000 and a laggy server).
I'm not sure about pre-emption either.
There're other users on the server so I can't boot it all the time. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Thanks for the great guides. I'm not noob in linux or with hlds but it's really strange when the hlds lags after a fresh install. And it didn't before.

You say your server lag but you don't give much info on what actually is lagging.
Does the ping increase substantially ?
What hardware are you using ?
Does the models freeze and start jumping around without cause ?
Are you using pingboost ?
What's your cpu usage when the lag occurs ?
Just a few small questions that might get you closer to a real answer.
