Ok so healspray is really really acidic. And that fits in because spores are also acidic and neither of those hurt the aliens. Acid rocket and gorge spit do hurt aliens with ff on but those are NOT very acidic. And that totally makes sense because acid rockets and gorge spit don't do much damage to marines! <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I think the Onos belly could be made a little more fun by turning it into a "ready room" type area of the map, rather than a static image. Any marines being digested would be transported to a stomach-shaped room, red and full of "digestive organs" to wander round for a little while, until they are fully digested.

Yeah, not realistic, but the current stomach isn't exactly realistic either, and it would be more of a laugh to jump around in a stomach with anyone else being eaten, instead of sitting and waiting to die.

As it would be part of the map, it could only be an option for new maps - older ones would still have to display the stomach image instead.

There could be a standard stomach-room which map-makers could use, or each one could create their own. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

You know what bothers me far more as far as realism goes? You can see in there, meaning there is some sort of lightsource. Furthermore, the belly is red, when the aliens clearly have green/yellow blood.

I wouldn't worry too much about the realism of a game that's about space marines fighting aliens, blowing them up in billion dollar starships with grenades and other explosives.

This is not flaming just my POV:
Realism ? Mammoths (sp?) eating marines that have jetpacks and fly around with a welder that repairs other marine's armor in 2 sec ? Dude...it's not a realistic game...no more realism is needed...

Well, as far as realism goes, I think he is talking about
the realism of how the game works, not the fact that the
"Frontiersmen" are fighting Aliens. I assume that the
"lightsource" in the Onos is just a result of Marines fool-
ing around in there. Who says they can't have flashlights,
or that their visors have image processors?

The spores aren't acidic, they are bacteria that attack stuff.
I guess the HA sterilizes them. For the Heal Spray, we would
have to know exactly what Heal Spray is in the first place?

The Onos stomach "readyroom" is funny, but it would be kinda
strange cause the Onos isn't that big; the stomach room would
    be kinda small...

Because of the way marine bullets work.

You see, unlike bullets we're used to, marine bullets are comprised entirely of a highly concentrated pack of bacterium affecting nanites.

Any time *any* nanite comes in contact with a bacterium, it attempts to kill it, and vice versa. However, generally, the bacterium is concentrated much more in the Kharaa 'form', so ambient nanites don't have a chance of overwhelming it to kill it.

So, what happens when a super-dense package of nanites (bullet) hits a fairly dense clump of bacterium (kharaa)? Why the nanites, being in much higher numbers in the small space, are able to spread inward and attack the cohesion of the bacterium clump. If enough do this in a short enough time, the bacterium clump loses, in order,: mobility, information processing, and finally cohesion as the ambient nanites are able to take over and tear apart the now very loose bacterium clump. This also explains why aliens disappear, and to some extent why RfK exists, depending on the energy processing ability of the nanites in dissolving the bacterium, they are able to "refund" some energy back to the com.

As for why it's red inside but green "blood" tends to spatter? Like any mold or fungus, the bacterium comes in a number of colors depending on the specific strain. Each strain has a specific function. Green seems to be involved in movement, as you see very little of it on a gorge, a fair amount on a skulk, the fade has streaks of almost pure green, and the onos tends to have some around the legs and body. So, knowing this, we can realize that the green stuff coming out isn't "blood", it's actually a defense mechanism of the Kharaa organism. Fast moving "green" bacterium attempts to surround the nanite clump of the bullet, and pull it out of the body of the Kharaa. Of course, since the nanite bullet is dissolving as it hits so as to do maximum damage to the bacterium clump, the end result is that this comes out of the Kharaa in "spatters", much like blood. This also explains why marines don't get hit by the "bullets". As soon as the super dense pack of nanites hits the bacterium, it gets torn apart (and spreads apart) attempting to combat the bacterium's cohesion.

Obviously the bacterium inside the onos belly is red and tends to glow (like many types of fungus do) Probably this bacterium is much better at absorbing the materials of the human form and converting it to other types of bacterium used to heal the organism.

Now when you stop thinking in terms of acid and poison and instead think in terms of bacterium concentrations, spores are easy. They increase the concentration of bacterium in the area so much so that it overwhelms the personal nanite field of the marines around it, and the bacterium proceeds as always, attempting to take apart anything foreign and use it for expanding its own growth. Heavy Armor, with its much denser nanite concentration and power supply, is invulnerable to this attack. (This is also why weapons will survive a marines death for a while - the higher concentration of nanites - but eventually succumb and vanish due to a lack of a connection to power as is supplied by a marine holding it)

In fact, the color gives us a further clue. Spores being green, these are the "fast moving" type of bacterium, that is typically used to tear apart nanite clumps as fast as possible. Umbra being yellow demonstrates to us how it works, it's the main Kharaa body matter (except for the fade.. which has a blinking ability that seems to require something entirely different, which is why we get so much of the otherwise rare black bacterium) probably because it's easier for the hives to produce in quanitity. Anyway, when a nanite bullet "hits" the spores, if it reaches a heavy enough concentration, the bullet makes the mistake of thinking it's reached its target and so starts its breakup and deploy sequence. Of course, since it's actually in mid-air, it does no damage to the Kharaa within the cloud.

    Happy now?

    What is Heal Spray?
    It damages heavies...
Assuming that it is bacteria, again, why
does it affect the HA? Also, what about
    bile bombs...

Obviously it's the application of some other type of bacterium, probably comprised primarily of yellow, but perhaps other strains we haven't seen. (White?) Difficult to produce in quantity but seems to be effective against even very high nanite densities.

Besides, I can't do all your homework for you, marine, go look it up at the academy! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Couldn't that readyroom/stomach concept be done via a plugin? Prison plugin comes to mind...

It would be humorous if you could see a rine inside a cloaked onos. Just the mental picture of this rine corpse floating by as the onos runs away.

Why don't your bullets injure a digesting Marine? The same reason they don't injure your teammates when Friendly Fire is off?
