How Do You Get Bites To Land?

<div class="IPBDescription">Feet seem to be invincible</div> What part of the rines should I aim for? Sense I've really paid attention to what I'm doing, I don't seem to be landing bites on rines feet, even though I'm running right against them. Should I jump and aim for the back?

You can aim the whole marine, but of course ambush is one method
to incrase your success. I prefer to aim the body/head area.

many players have told me, and I agree, aim for their c-r-o-t-c-h.

    No joke.

Never EVER aim for the feet.

If the marine jumps or even if hes falling or bit higher then you

    he will get **** knockback

trust me marines can go 10m from knockback sometimes its lame.

Completely touching them often induces problems (prediction errors that is), albeit primarily when they have room to move. Angulate your view slightly up while biting - it doesn't really matter what part of the marine you're biting up, an upwards tilted view is usually beneficial unless you're biting off a wall or something.

And avoid touching them/running through them.

So I have to get close enough to bite, yet not actually bump into them? That's...wierd. I'll try to apply this next time I play.

This is because of errors in HL's movement prediction code. To your client, it may seem as if though you are touching the marine and can bite him causing damage - that's what your client predicts. However, according to the server, the marine has moved, or you have not moved enough yet, and any bites try to land won't land, since you are too far away from the marine.
Also, with laggy marines, you'll experience a <i>lot</i> of jerkiness while moving near him - again, because of the HL prediction code. Your client predicts that you'll be able to be in spot x in a second because it's empty right now; by the time you're there, the servers tells you that you <i>can't</i> be there because the marine is now there.

    Sorry if that was confusing <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Skulk bites originate in front of your view, so you need to keep some distance to make sure they hit. However, they have a far longer range than most people realize.

For bite practice try to aim every bite. (Best tried in co.) It doesn't matter how many times you get fragged or how slow you are. Try to make every bite hit. Your speed will increase and your aim will get better as you do this.

    Works wonders for me.

It can get real depressing and frustrating to play against some people. I don't feel like I learn anything when I'm popped before I hear someone start shooting. Still gonna try, though.

Yes indeed. You can have a Marine crouched in a corner, but if you drop from the ceiling right on top of him and start biting, nothing will hit. You're too close and the bites originate inside of him and do nothing.

Best thing you can do is stand back and bite only when you know you've got a hit lined up. If you just keep chomping away at air, you're going to obscure your view, give the Marine a better sound indication of where you are, and be busy "reloading" your Bite whenever he -is- in a position to get hit. Goes for just about every other life form as well.

    Bite efficiency = killing effectiveness.

Well, you should parasite then run away. But if ur enemy has engaged you, you should jump around doging the bullets trying to reach teh rine. Now you bite the body and jump to the side. You bite his feet now jump to the head and go from there.

If you ever played NS on a lan you wouldn't be asking this question. It has a lot more to do with latency and rate settings than "Sk1llZ." Your real question should be: how do I adjust my rate settings so what my client sees is most accurate to what the server is displaying? And I'm sure that is answered in a thread somewhere around here....

find the cl_updaterate, cl_cmdrate, rate, ex_interp settings that work for you (usually through trial and error) and then take the advice of the earlier posters.

There is a pretty good rate thread in the general competitive discussion forum if you need advice on rate settings.
