usually through an accountname or an emailaddress just login to friends with steam then click on add friends. then fill in his steamacc name or his email he uses for his steam account.
on certain newer mods its possible to add ppl ingame. i wouldnt have a faintest clue how to do this in NS.
I think a freinds list built into steam is a great idea, but what is so hard for valve to program? They made HL, HL2, the whole steam thing which works great except for friends. WHY CAN'T THEY GET A SIMPLE IM AND BUDDY FINDING THING TO WORK!?!?!?!?!?
i think their to busy with making their games. lol
mother: Son! get off that contraption and get out side and play with your freinds!
son: But MOM! I'm making games and making tons of money, even my freinds are doing the same! We're hoping that the wars will on pc's instead of real soon too!
Valve have said, on the Steam forums, that they know Friends is broken and didn't work as they had intended, which is why they took it down. They say their intent is to redo the whole thing to make it more reliable, but have given no timeline, or even what they feel the priority on the project is.
i have x-fire but it works even less than steam friends does! (i got friends to work ONCE) im behind a router but i have no idea how to change those port things to let x-fire thru =/
Just to clear up some mess here, if you can connect to xFire, then it is working fine.
To see people in your friends list, then you need to add them, using their xFire name, much in the same way as MSN or something like that works. The reason why you can only see "Friends Of Friends" is because you only have "testfriendxxx" in your friends list. This is done so no-one will have an empty list.
If you are having firewall problems, then the login process will timeout, and xFire will just sit at the logon screen.
*edit* If you have a router, then xFire will be able to connect via any outgoing port. If you have locked down the ports, then you will need to unblock port TCP 25999. then restart xFire, then log back in.
Based on my experiences with Steam, I would guess that Valve never committed enough resources to the Friends Server to meet the demand. It did work fine during the Steam Beta (considering how often Steam crashed then ), but as Steam became more popular, it became more difficult to connect. I have no idea how much money Valve would need to spend to get it stable, but they certainly don't seem willing to spend it.
i receantly on steam had a friend and know him in real life, i acsedently blocked and removed him, and now i try to add him it say "you are blocking all communications with this player." now can i unblock him and add him again, thank.
I have never had any real torubles with friends. I accepted friends yesterday (or if it wa day before that), and during the last two years I both sent invites trough the ingame system and the "add friend" system many times.

Friends was working, but since it hasn't been for almost two years (and Valve being busy with other things), I basically gave up on it.
And where the hell are the parlour games? False advertising anyone?
