My second most rewarding game.
Ok, so there I was, I had joined in the game a little late into it on Tanith. Anyway, when I join the marines hadn’t established a base at a hive yet, so I set off to Waste handling where I knew I might be able to sneak in and take out a hive. Luckily, the aliens hadn’t gotten this far yet because we owned the reactor room. I hopped in there, and in a little while the commander and I set up a small remote base there with an extra CC.
The game goes on, both sides doing a great job, I some how manage to take down both their hives, but sadly they took them back shortly after I killed them. The game progresses like this for about a hour and a half. Then it happens, they take out the original base, followed by the reactor room. So we all retreat back into waste handling and set up spawn portals.
Now here’s where it gets fun. We’re eventually trapped in this room, all my team mates were struggling to set up more torrents, only to be picked down by acid rockets. I get fed up with this after a while and decide to give them the free time they need to get the torrents up. So I respawn, and charge out. I run off head long into three fades, suicide rush, I empty out both LMG and pistol clips, then pull out my knife, I push them waaaay back into another one of their out posts, and some how manage to kill two of the three that were there. I laugh about this, it was funny. I respawn and do the same thing, shoot, switch, shoot, switch, knife. I knifed a fade. I laughed a little harder. Respawn, head out, do the same thing, don’t kill a thing.
Anyway, long story short, the game lasted a whole another 1 hour after they had us on a last stand. I knifed 7 fades, 3 skulks, 1 lurk, and 4 gorges, and this is not counting all the LMG kills I got on fades, it was around 20. I also LMGed an onos after they offence chamber rushed us and set up a hive. By the end, we had no CC, no torrents, one respawn, and no armoire. Yet they STILL could not kill us. They kept rushing in; we kept suicide rushing straight into them. They kept dieing.
So, for all you “fades are over powered” idiots out there, the trick to killing a fade is NOT to try and get it from long range, you’ll get killed easily. However, the trick is to get so close to them that all you can see is fade and your gun and nothing else. They hardly stand a chance, acid rockets hurt them a lot at close range, and if they can’t really see the midget marine zipping around at their feet, they can’t really claw it. So, next time you see a fade, don’t turn tail and run, get right in its face. You may not kill it, but at least it will drive it away and give your team time to rebuild/repair.
Just for fun, lets recap.
Weapon: Knife
Kill status: 7 fades, 3 skulks, 1 lurk, 4 gorges.
Weapon: LMG
Kill status: countless fades, countless skulks, 5 lurks, 1 freshly spawned onos with no backup. (Don’t as me how; the guy must have been an idiot.) And about 15 million gorges. All on the last stand with NO heavy anything, NO jetpack, NO ammo, NO special weapon or weapon upgrades.

If he has HA on, it's a little tougher, but any fade worth his salt can slice through lots of light armored marines like a hot knife through butter.
I congratulate you on your incredible kills, but I can't believe that the vast majority of fade players would be so succeptible.
I always try to go into close combat with Fades in desperate situations like these and just stay moving and knifing. Sometimes you get them, sometimes you don´t.
I just always get yelled at for trying to knife an Onos or Fade, like "Are you stupid or something, trying to knife an Onos!!! (Explicit Language Here) " . I have had my Onos kills with a pistol and a knife so i just ignore the comments and run for glory towards the mammoths......
btw. are you eye from PHL?
But, yeah, i've also made quite a few surprising kills with the knife. Even killed an Onos with it once. I was well pleased. :)
I reccomend people don't underestimate the knife. It's quite a handy weapon at times. :)
New players don't have ANY clue how tough a fade is... sort of frightening. I've watched them run away for healing after getting hit 3-4 times with an LMG.
although i would choose a welder over the knive, you have a better chance of hitting than with a knive
I'm confused though. How did they get an Ohno out there if you guys were defending waste handling. They actualy built the 3rd hive while you were still spawning? Never seen that, but that doesn't mean it can't happen.
and yeah, I don't know how you got away with knifing a few fades... every guy that's gotten near me with a knife might get a couple slices in but soon as my arm through his chest.
The answer to close range Fades is the Shotgun, aliens fear that and rightly should. Unfortunately its not used to much in games, rare that a commander will give you a Shotty to lurk around with. Of course, the Shotgun doesn't always work, but it really puts the hurt on most aliens.
I've killed HA HMGs as a fade, of course they weren't very skilled but still, it's hard. And if I'm in umbra I could probably take out two HAs.
Here’s another tip though, those claws are NASTY yes, but, when a fade charges after you with them, jump to your right or left and duck at the same time, they will fly right past you, then you can just start attacking their feet. In the confusion level is high enough, they will think they just got you and keep trying to do something else.
I can’t stress that movement is the key to any FPS game. You can have bad aim, as long as you can move better then the person shooting at you, you’re almost safe. Luckily, I was blessed with good movement skills and some-what-good aim.
And yes, Hillbilly, you lil punk, I am from PHL =) fancy meting you here!

Yeah really, I noticed this too. How did they manage to get the 3rd hive up if you were right there? Especially at Waste Handling...
I dont see how thats "a lot" of damage.
