Active Webbing (battle Gorges)

How do you do it?
You don't see it often in ns (game's usually over by 3rd hive), but in co, you see battle gorges pretty often. You know the kind - the one that waits in a vent or a hallway and webs solo marines. And then spits them, webs them, spits, webs, spits, and so on until they're dead.

How do you do that? That is, hit a marine with a web while he's running. Do you aim the web at him and double click? I've had mixed sucess - I can get him webbed, but I can't keep him webbed long enough to kill him myself.

Well, first, you absolutely need adrenaline... especially if the Marine has resupply.

Thanks for some useless advice

I'll try webbing the feet. Do you click both times on the same spot?

you know, I never can tell if my webs are actually working or not. When I turn on alien vision, sometimes I can see the webs i dropped and sometimes there's nothing there, no matter how many webs i shoot out. Is there some sort of special method required to web or is it an alien vision bug?

I think its a bug.
In order for web to work for some reason, flashlight must be OFF.

Its even a reported one, i dont think just double clicking one rine would help....

Ive always thought u have to web on 2 parts of the world, and that just shooting a rine has no effect. Not sure though because most of the time im battle-gorging I dont have webs.

Shoot a part of the map, shoot another part of the map. A web line forms. Tada, that's it. Don't shoot the marine.

Just fire off both webs fast to the left and right of the marine for a on-the-ground web.

You probably won't be able to keep a marine perma-webbed and still spit him to death, even with adren.

Active webbing makes GLs useless as well. They explode, destroying existing webs. Lay back webs covering the most area with the fewest shots. JPs come in, thinking the webs are gone, but in just 3 seconds, all the webs are back to snare them.

Remember not to spam your webs mindlessly, wasting your limit. Slant them, from ground to ceiling, to cover the most area. This lets you spread out your webs more, and do it quicker.

Get good at wiggle walking.
You can use the same skill while marine webbing.. strafe right, fire, strafe left, fire, don't adjust your aim to be at the marine, let it hit the ground usually slightly behind the marine (as he's probably backing up)

Use quickswitch to jump back and forth between web and shooting.

Remember that webs stack up to three on a single marine. So if you drop one web and then try to fire and drop another, you'll have worse luck than if you drop two or three and then fire. Don't bother shooting more than three, since the rest don't affect him anyway.

Also, remember while doing all this scream like a school-girl into your mic "Help! I got one! Come kill it!"

ok so in summary for my stupid self:

1. Don't turn on alien vision when webbing.

2. Hit 2 points on wall/ceiling/floor to form a web.

got it.

It doesn't matter if your Flashlight is on or off. If you turn on your flashlight, webs will still be formed -- they will simply be invisible until you die. Invisible to -everyone.-

In most cases I just need 3 web-shots which creates 2 web-strings instantly triggered by the marine. (shoot to the left-right-left e.g. to create 2 web-strings that go through or touch the marine)
Since webs stack to a specific amount I can spit after those 2 webstrings until the marine dies.
Resupply doesn't matter except you run off adren between those spits.
Depending on his armor, I can see the marine already drawing his weapon before the last spit kicks in and kills.

Edit: You could try 4 webshots to create 3 webstrings but then you maybe run out of adren while spitting and a reduced rate of fire gives more time to resupply.

So summary: ...?

The obvious:
* Get adren
* Don't spam webs

The less obvious:
* Aim for the feet
* Get both ends off by strafing, not mouse aiming
* Web the marine 3 times before attacking him.

After the 3 webs, do you drop another 3 on and then continue the spit?

shoot the marine then shoot the ground ahead of him, he'll get webbed

On publics I see wayyy too many people gorging then trying to use web like spit, paying no attention to the fact that the amount of web is limited by area, you can often end up with 4-5 inch-long webs taking up virtually no space along a floor or wall when that happens. Which will make any of your teammates who know how to web *angry*

Zig Zag your webs, make some of them obvious to deter marines and hide others. (By webbing floors, low across steps, or along the break in a texture) web corners, jetpack flightpaths and parties of marines. If the marines have all left their spawn set up lots of long diagonal webs all over the place before laying into their CC.

When I go Battle Gorge, I'll web near a marine's feet, then web a point behind him, voila, instant webbed marine. Web back near his feet again, and you've hit him with two webs. If you're a camping ho-bag, you can set the first shot up beforehand and only fire off the second and third to spring the trap when the unsuspecting marine comes along, that leaves you with plenty of time to do lots of damage with spit.

A good delaying / ambush tactic in a map with lots of corners is to create a bottleneck for the marines by spamming 3-4 threads of web across an area that you *know* they'll want to be coming through. The left hand hive entry in co_ulysses is one place like that, web the top of the steps, then a point across the corridoor looking out, and any 'rines are gonna get their heads webbed. This is only really fun if your team are supporting you though, because then they can attack from 2-3 directions at once taking the marines by storm, if you've got no backup then keeping them at bay's about all you can do.

On most public servers a smart gorge can keep 4-5 marines at bay for 30 seconds or so easily - as so many are unwilling to walk into web.

A decent battle gorge *can* take down a full power jetpack marine with resupply, it just doesn't happen all that often.

I always hit the wall with the first one, and then hit the ground in the spot where a straight line will go through the marine.

Basically u shoot the first web to the left/right of the marine... hitting the wall behind him....

Then you fire the second web to the opposite side... hitting the wall behind him....

As long as you hit two places that a valid web can be formed...

The web strand thingie forms the second you shoot the second web... forming on the mouth of the gorge, and travelling to the other wall.... in essence you grapple the marine with the web, it hits him before it hits the wall...

Spit Spit web spit spit web..... easy to kill

That's also why you must not drop all your webs accross doors, vents...

Since one JP will take only one way (usually with a welder to get rid of fist webs), then enter the hive and shoot you... if you miss your first web, then you'll have less chance to survive (especially if not covered by at least, a skulk ).

That's also why i shout to every player, "Don't drop all your webs !"... most of them don't understand

When it's necessary, i'll try to catch the rines from behind.. webbing them so that aliens on the other side won't have to face the reinforcements and just have to walk and swipe/devour them

Battle gorge is also a good skill... you drop in the middle of a group of marines (even marines spawn) and web all over you... They usually moves to dodge nothing, and get webbed easily to let your friends get back and kill everything.
