Any Guitarists

Currently I own an american strat, and because of that I've fallen in love with blues rock music. Malmsteen, Satriani, Johnson, Vai- etc. I now, want to buy a newer, more metalish guitar. I'm a hardcore a7x fan, metallica, old rock, new rock, metalcore, etc. I'm just a lover of music.

I just bought a guitarport from musician's friend, and from what I hear they are amazing, and I can't wait to get it and start recording.

Back to the point. Guitar. I want a metal guitar, something me and my band can use that doesn't have the bluesy look and sound to it, and a more screaming vibe for the local shows. I'm willing to spend anywhere from.. 500-800, and the one I'm looking at the most is a Kirk Hammett signature.

Being the metallica fan I am, I figured what better way to play their music than with kirk's very own signature guitar. Any suggestions?

Mmm I would say avoid buying anything Before playing it for a while. Always buy something after you have played it long enough (your concern how long) Otherwise I`d like to say that ESP`s are really nice in their price and of course oyu could try to find some nice strato, If you have nerves to start messing with fenders, go for it! You can find really beauty for cheap dimes.

And Most important don`t think anything else expect: Do I like the sound? Could I play this rest of my life? and not ads or others.

My Gibson SG never served me wrong when I had a metal band, but then I don't really see why the type of guitar really matters.

The guitarist in my band has the Hammett signature you're looking at. It sounds pretty good as far as I can tell. I've never really been a gear nut myself, however keep in mind that obtaining a certain "sound" has as much to do with the amps, and in the case of Hammett probably also the EQ pedals he runs his guitar through.

Get some low-gauge strings (all up to you, but I'm talking point four seven or less - heavier gauged strings aren't so good for mind-melting solos) and a decent effects pedal and it just don't matter what type of guitar you have. With some of this modern hardware you could get the Metallica-esque sound on a banjo.

I`d like to second that you cant go wrong wiht teh Gibsons, they just arent the cheapest.

I'd say that if you want the Metallica sound, an ESP guitar would be a pretty good bet; Metallica seem quite fond of them. Of course, as the others have suggested, I'd recommend going to a music store and trying one before you commit to anything.

Again, to repeat previous posters, you can achieve pretty much any sound with a decent set of FX pedals. Based on recent experiences however, I'd suggest that unless you've found a really high quality one, you should avoid multi-fx pedals and just go for a set of decent individual ones, even though it's the more expensive option.

ESP is very good for the metal sound and unique look. I have a slightly modified ESP-F250 (now out of production), but you can pick up similar models for a fair price.

If you're into modifying, I'd suggest taking whatever guitar feels comfortable to you, and change the pickups to an EMG 85/81 set. My current guitar actually has the same set the Hammet you're looking at has (EMG-HZ H4 pair) with an Afterburner, and the 85/81 is MUCH better.

I currently own a Fender American Strat and a Fender Twin Reverb Tube Amp from 1978 (about 110 Watts). It plays pretty heavy rock with a Boss DS-2 Pedal.

Though, I suppose you want a guitar with a darker sound?

If so, I'd recommend an Ibanez Iceman like the new ICX220. You can make 'em squeal real good but it still gives you a nice dark tone overall.

I've only just started out playing the guitar but a guy in my old band had one of these and he freaking loved it and it certainly let him mess around with some interesting distort effects.
Cheaper than buying an entirely new guitar anyway...

If i were you'd, i stay far far away from signature models. You kinda pay more only because an artist has his name on the guitar. For the more or less the same amount, you can get as ESP/LTD M250NT, which is more or less a KH, BUT with neckthru instead of a bolt on. But thats just me, i love the feel of a heelless neckthru, compared to a bolt on.
