I ban slurs of any kind, including those used for homosexual people (no I don't ban the "g-word" which I apparently can't type here because it gets filtered). I'm posting the entire day's log and just the relevant section both available to pick, so up to you. If you choose to view the entire days log you will notice other uses of the word, keep reading and you will see that the uses were met with a response and the person agreed to stop.
This person, however, ask if he could use a "different" slur, which was obviously nothing more than an attempt to get away with saying it, so I kicked him, no ban. He then came back and used another slur and before I had finished typing the ban command he had used another one.
Ban or don't, your call, limited or permanent, your call. Because of his return and immediate defiance and blatant disregard for a very simple rule (I allow cussing, just not slurs) he won't be returning to my server ever.
Obviously I used word pad and it's find and replace ability to remove all references to my password. You will also notice some time sections missing, this is due to the fact that two of my most trusted and intelligent friends help me monitor so the logs aren't always coming to me, though the majority of it does as it's my server so I try to put in the most time.

I have no problem with the fact that he used the word. Almost everyone to ever come onto my server has at least once.
Maybe I should elaborate a bit more on what happened.
Because I don't have adminmod and because most people don't see the motd I have to do rule reviews manually. So once every few hours I, or one of the other admins, comes along and says "Let's do a quick rule review" and we tell people the two rules of the server, keep the teams even within 2 (i.e. 6 to 8) and we do nothing, if they get uneven by 3 or more (6 to 9) and no one fixes it, we change the map. Rule 2, no slurs. Of any kind. No racial, religious or sexual preference slurs. That's it. They can cuss and yell and whatever they want, no slurs.
Someone said a word we don't allow I ask him not to, he said "OK I won't" then this guy chimed up and said "Can I say ******* instead?" so I kicked him. Just a kick, nothing more. Then he comes back and says something worse, so I go to ban and before I finish he says something else. I wasn't abusive or mean or overly strict, I didn't kick the first guy who said it even though I KNOW he was there for a rule review earlier and knew better, I just ask him to stop.
This guy wasn't being just immature he was being defiant and rude and purposely causing problems.
I wouldn't presume to demand anyone do anything, but it would be nice if this kind of behavior carried more weight behind it than just "you can't play on this one of 300 NS servers anymore". I run a good, fast, stable, server that's full most of the time. I have lots of regulars, it's a good server and I know it, so yes being banned from one good server is worth notice, but not as much as being banned from 5 is.
Don't ban him forever, that's fine. Give him a week to think about whether or not he should show more respect to those of us who shell out the cash for the box and the bandwidth to let him play.
I'm not saying I'm a selfless saint for running a server, I run one because I enjoy doing it. And because I enjoy maintaining an environment I have fun in. Having my own server insures that I get to have fun when I play and yes I do need the players as much as they need me, but in the end I'm still the one out the cost of that box and the cost of co-location every month and in the end that should count for something when it comes to respect.
If the admins don't stick together, if we don't support others (even if their rules are different than our own) than we get... Well go play CS for an hour and tell me what you think. They have thousands of servers to choose from and none of the admins even know, much less support, the others and so no one cares if they get banned from one server.
It's not about what he did, it's about what he didn't do. He didn't show me any respect, in fact he purposely defied me and disrespected me. If you ban cussing on your server and you come here and say someone cussed, you ask them not to, they let out of string of cuss words, you kicked, they came back in and let out two more strings of cuss words so you banned then I would ban too even though I allow cussing. It probably wouldn't be a permanent ban, but it would be a noticeable amount of time.
It's not about what the person said, it's about how they treated a fellow admin.
I installed clanmod last night. Some things I noticed right off the bat that were far better:
1: Consgreet. I just placed my rules there. The players are facing the console for a good 30+ seconds and cannot skip it.
2: The pop-up screen works and clanmod has one where the rules are displayed to the player.
3: Far easier admining of the game through the menus once binds 6-0 were put in. Reminds me, devs, please put binds 6-0 in on the next client patch. Thanks.
4: Word filtering that really works. Adminmod's never did for me.
5: I may be mistaken but I think my CPU usage dropped by a good 30%. With adminmod in place my CPU on NS with 3-4 players in would be hovering around 80%. Last night when I had 4 players in CPU was fluxuating between 40% and 60%.
Might be worth the look to help you out, no?
