Any Death Cab For Cutie Fans?

<div class="IPBDescription">new movie out</div> for the few of you who actually like indie pop type tunes...

death cab has a new docu-movie coming out, with concert footage and interviews...

the interviews look pretty damn boring tbh, but the concert and tour footage is nicely done...

amazon.com has about <a href='http://www.amazon.com/gp/r.html?R=Q6EUGSA7NXDF&C=9V4NFKXAE5DG&T=C&U=/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0009UZGHI/ref=pe%5Fd%5Fdwsc%5F04&H=JOqpDbW4gk8fqFGmUJBDvnwdgAMA' target='_blank'>10 minutes of the film</a> to preview for free

I just figured, since NIN gets threads, death cab, the near opposite of NIN, should get a thread ;P I wish the show they're doing in my area soon wasn't sold out... playing with the Decemberists, whom I also <3.

anyway, this has been a public service announcement.

    hush! I don't even know how they got wrapped up in being classified as emo -_- the singer has a softish voice but his songs aren't complainy or whiny...

    ...not the ones I like anyway <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    the <a href='http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll' target='_blank'>all-music guide</a> doesn't classify them as emo so as far as I'm concerned, they're off the hook <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    A friend of mine likes them, so I downlaoded a song or two from their website. If your into that kind of music then that's cool, but personally it came off as very emo. AND EMO SUCKS!

    Not much a fan of their earlier stuff but Transatlanticism is an unbelievable album. For the uninitiated check out "Tiny Vessels," "We Looked Like Giants," "Passenger Seat," man, I could pick half the songs on that album.

    Great lyrics. Seriously quality poetry, and very little angst. Most of the songs on that album are really mellow.

    I roll the window down
    and then begin to breathe in
    the darkest country road
    and the strong scent of evergreen
    from the passenger seat as you are driving me home.

    Then looking upwards
    I strain my eyes and try
    to tell the difference between shooting stars and satellites
    from the passenger seat as you are driving me home.

    "Do they collide?"
    I ask and you smile.
    With my feet on the dash
    the world doesn't matter.

    When you feel embarrassed then i'll be your pride.
    When you need directions then i'll be the guide.
    for all time.
    for all time.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Don't worry, the price will come down as the emo kids cut themselves to death, and the audiences thin out thanks to the magic of attrition. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I went to a concert of theirs in a small venue in pittsburgh for $15. Have they gotten a lot more popular recently or something?

    Go check out their "shows" section on their site.. There's a few shows on there for over $100.. I think the cheapest one was like $25.

    Because they're sad all the time and sing about sad things and also suck. Combine sadness with suckiness and you get emo.

    I like Death Cab from what I've heard of them (downloaded free legal ehm-pee-threes from somewhere). Although they do have angsty lyrics I don't consider them emo in my personal categorization system. Emo is reserved for the likes of Good Charlotte and Linkin Park. I put Death Cab under slowcore/shoegaze. I happen to like shoegaze. A lot. It's not emo cut-cut-cut music. It's just sad poetic indie type music.

    In our eyes are mirror images and when
    We kiss they're perfectly aligned
    And I have to speculate that God himself

    Puzzle pieces from the clay
    True, it may seem like a stretch, but
    Its thoughts like this that catch my troubled
    Head when you're away when I am missing you to death
    When you are out there on the road for
    Several weeks of shows and when you scan
    The radio, I hope this song will guide you home

    Heights, 'come down now,' they'll say
    But everything looks perfect from far away,
    'come down now,' but we'll stay...

    not sad!

    hell, half their songs are in major keys...

    what's everyone got against sadness anyway? sadness is way more gutsy than anger, and way more respectable. Anyone can be angry; not everyone can be sincere and poetic. I'd take some sincere guy singing wistfully about how he almost had it perfect over some scrawny, pasty guy like Marilyn Manson or Trent Reznor growling about how god is dead or something any day.

    It seems in the past that indie and emo bands in general seem to come off as very whiny and don't show any signs of musical talent. Generally they are simple rhythm guitars overlaid with pop vocals, which gets boring and stale pretty fast.

    A genre that can accomplish a feeling of sadness without becoming contrived or boring is the blues. If you ever listen to some electric blues, you'll notice that the guitarists are extremely accomplished and very authentic and 'real' sounding. I'd say a good percentage of blues tracks aren't even about feeling depressed, but about observations of the world around them.

    Wow, I've been pretty MIA from the boards lately, but I felt the need to break my silence to back the 'Cab.

    Transatlanticism is simply one of the best, most coherent albums I've bought in a long time. Remember when people made records that actually sounded like a <i>collection</i> of <i>related</i> songs, instead of a bunch of insincerely contrived, disparate tunes battling in a free-for-all for radio play?

    "Emo" . . . pah. The meaningless catch-all term for stuff a Hoobastank or Linkin Park fan thinks isn't rockin'. They don't have an angry rappin' white teen from the 'burbs in the background?!?!? THEY MUST BE EMO SISSIES!

    Think Dashboard Confessional, and then don't stray far from that neighborhood.

    And rap-rockers-- I don't care how angry they make it sound; it's still <b>whining</b>.
