They shot him 5 times in the chest? I heard they'd shot him 3 times in the head after pinning him. I thought that was pretty harsh at first, 3 time seems excessive. But then I realised it's rather likely he was carrying a bomb capable of causing the same amount of casualties as the first time.
Either way, it's safe to say I won't be trippin' to the capital any time soon. Not to dramatise anything, but it seems that Britain is almost under siege. That's what it feels like to me, anyway.
From what I heard watching the BBC last night, there were a bunch of armed plainclothes stationed around the stations in parked cars. They rushed into the station before the shooting. The uniforms already guarding the station didn't seem to know what was going on and just evactuated the people in the station as best as they could. This info was from an eyewitness account.
Irunno if this is true, but if it is one could sumrise that this was a planned operation from the amount of manpower they had waiting outside.
Can people stop over-emphasising the irrelevant facts.
Yes he was Pakistani, but does that have any relevance? No. The relevant point is that he adhered to the Muslim faith, and even that's not so relevant as the whole idea of violent protest is revoked in the Khoran. Jihad is considered by most Muslims as a misinterpretation of their sacred teachings.
London fights back? Firstly this is the police who are doing this. Don't lay down blanket statements like that; it's like saying "America votes Bush"; I'm sure a lot of you would disagree with that statement. Secondly there's no fighting back going on here. This is defending of the realm. Taking out a suicide bomber is not an act of agression but of defence.
It's quite patent that these terrorists are trying to provoke a response. Many people on these forums have misunderstood the responses available to the British Government. There are, in fact, four:
Agression Defence Pacifism Retreat
Agression would be something like destroying Mosques and symbols of the Muslim religion. This is what one idiot has chosen to do. He has incorrectly assumed that all Muslims agree and will take part in this terrorism, and has chosen to respond against those are are actually as appalled as he is. GG.
Defence is what is actually happening. Non-violence unless neccessitated to deny a terrorist attempt.
Pacifism would be sitting back and not doing anything. Who knows, they might get bored, but hundreds of people would have died by then. Not an option.
Retreat. We all knows what this means. This is what the terrorists want; a retreat from Iraq. Unfortunately retreat would mean that we're accepting what they're accusing us of: We will not retreat because we have made an agreement to rebuild the country that we and our military allies have left in ruins somewhat (I chose the phrase 'military allies' because I truly believe that we do not share the same politics as the USA, Italians, etc.).
I believe that leaving Iraq in the state it's in now would be truly selfish. Without the British there I fear the oil companies would have no active resistance to their plans to bleed Iraq dry of its natural resources.

On the front of one of my newspapers it says that the men who shot the man were "SAS trained". If this is so, it comes as no surprise that they, er, made sure the chap was dead.

I said it in the other thread, and now I think it's even more true. This is turning into the plot from The Siege.
Great film, but no its not...we're hardly under martial law by a ruthless general yet

Maybe you read into films deeper than I I wouldn't say the suspsicion of the muslim community has increased significantly at all in a long time, its just every time something like this happens the suspicions are renewed.
While I think the events are disturbing, I do not think the police action was a violation of human rights, it was still common sense and probably the best way to deal with the situation.
Ok, so this man was in a hose under survailence, he takes a bus to the underground (being followed) He is then confronted and told to stop, he bolts running down into the underground. Chased by police telling him to stop or they will shoot. He jumps OVER a barrier and keeps going down to the tube, he dives in and grabs a pole and someones leg...
police tackle him, and shoot 5 times in his head.
What else were they to do? He should NOT have run, he should have complied...
This is like the taser gun thing but with far greater consequences due to the high alert of the police at the time.It is a shame.. but the guy kinda had it coming...
I'm still confused about that one really. I haven't heard anything that definitively says the man got tackled. All I've heard are eyewitness reports that say the man fell. Some say he was held down, others say he was just shot.

Got to speak with a mate back in London and he said that on the same morning, prior to the event, a statement was issued on a radio news programme that (paraphrased): "from now on police will be using lethal measures against the terrorist threat"
He could have been running for any number of reasons...people pointed guns at him...he was a petty criminal...he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever the situation, its common sense that you shouldn't run in a situation like that, but who can say how they'd act...

They couldn't have done a worse thing, really. It's just gonna give the real terrorist cells more ammo against Britain in general, and it's almost 100% sure that there's going to be claims that they shot the guy "because he wasn't white" which isn't going to help anything at all.
Then again, you don't run away from armed police, and then jump onto a tube train. It's a pretty damn stupid thing to do under normal circumstances but recently it really is as good as suicide.
Erm, I do believe suicide bombers use socalled "deadman's triggers". The kind that goes off when you release your finger from the button, not when you press it.
You can shoot as many bullets in his head as you want, that bomb is gonna explode nomatter what. So yes, it was excessive even if he was a suicide bomber.
Comments
Dont shoot him, he dies, people near him die.
I know what one id choose.

Now the public has to watch over terrorist and policemen?
Also no force is better trained than the SAS. SO19 are trained in tactics widely used by British Special Forces.
