Did you actually read through the whole manual? If you look through the whole thing (instead of just that cruddy little 1 paragraph summary), this games got more backstory than most retail games.
Actually, If you would not jump to conclusions and direct yoursefl to the "World" Section of this very website, you'll notice NS has a deeper story than even Deus Ex (In my opinion, of course.)

Not IMO. Deus Ex holds a special place in my heart just for having the most amazing storyline in a FPS type game. Damn that game ruled.
I believe that multiplayer games tend not to have a deep story anyway so why should Natural Selection be any different? (Unless of coruse they release a single player campaign later on (HINT HINT HINT HINT))

ok, it dosn't have a 'story' but thats b/c you are not going anywhere in time
it has a background, and a realy cool world (well universe)
Go read through all of the flav text in the manual, it actualy got some realy great stuff in it
oh, and BTW
Please don't ever dellete the first post, if you want to end a conversation (IE give it up) make a post saying so (it is sorta annoying not knowing just what started every thing, ie if ppl are being a tad to flameins or not)
Gosh, now that you look at it, the storyline is kind of weak. We really should bump it up, seeing as all the other Half Life mods have great ones. Like CS, where, uh... Okay, like DoD! It's like, full of story! You know, Hitler and that crap? Well, they didn't make that up... Well, how about Digital Paintball? No story there, but you can just imagine one, right? You're not constricted by the crap the team writer thought up! Hrm, maybe we should get a story good enough to rival TFCs, seeing as thats really popular also. Too bad they don't have one paragraph of story.
My point is that you sorta have to judge mods as mods sometimes, not as retail games. I'm sure the game would have been better if the dev team had had whatever resources and help they needed at a moment's notice.

Thief.. amazing. However, I was hoping to be more of a two-bit Thief in a medieval era, if you know what I mean. Hitman 2 is highly recommended by me, while it may not be an FPS per se, its quite a thriller.
I find the storyline to be pretty interesting and informative, while it has no actual effect on gameplay, it may help the folks down in the Fanfiction forum and that's decent.
the manual was so overloaded with "flavor" that it didn't tell you basic things like "hit use on armory to get ammo" (or at least, had it buried insanely deeply)
the auto-help was nice, but it was a pain to not know alot of stuff beforehand.

would you like me to write another story that goes along with the game, and has a little more info? i could you know.
Are you telling me someone actually pays attention?
Personally, im more for the game.
.:SkWyReL:.
for multiplayers only games it dont bother me- im quite happy to much on a marines brains not caring where he came from or what he was doing there.

"Here's all this COOL KIT! Now, if you want to do anything past easy, you're not allowed to use any of it, on anyone."
"Err.... okay....."
And if you want a famous game with a thin storyline, see Doom for details.
"You're a marine. Your base has been invaded by Hell. Yes, THE Hell, note the capital? The end."
