<div class="IPBDescription">A Forums Community Project</div> Well here it is...the thread for the Wiki/Weblog project. We kind of hijacked the other thread...sorry Doomeh. The basic jist of this is to create a website that has a weblog and wiki for information and news. The weblog is for the news part and can be moderated by the current forum mods. The wiki part is for archived tech info, how-to information and inside jokes. I would right more but my concentration is waning at 12:30am here.

    Oh, and the basic idea is for something like MySpace, but less retarded, with a wiki integrated.

    That, and its only for gamers and people with a strong interest in technology. Thus, if someone joins and doesn't seem to fit the bill, we would get rid of 'em.

    I volunteer to help w/ content creation. And I know just where I'll start: Media Centers & HDTV.

    What'd be really cool is if each contributer had their own area of the site too, that was just their blogs. Like in a magazine where one writer has a common feature run frequently (such as that one chick's Sex Drive column on wired, or the Daily Show's This Week In God.). We can have "EMO EMO CUT CUT" featurettes dealing w/ stupid people, "OMG DOOM'ed" dealing w/ tech news swiped from /., etc.

    I wonder if there are any multi-user type wiki's...

    I don't have the time to help, but my god, it needs some 'hardware / PC suggestion' area. We get a TON of threads on that, and either a guide or someone who answers questions on that would be awesome.

    Also, need hosting?

    I would be willing to help, but I doubt plain HTML is enough to get much done on the site. I have css, frames, tables down well enough, but even simple JavaScript or PHP forces me to use a tutorial to write it.

    I know PHP, but I don't have time at my disposal to work on this :/.

    But I'll offer this: it would be a wise idea to start off using one of <a href='http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki_software' target='_blank'>these</a> already-written Wiki packages rather than start from scratch. The more off-the-shelf stuff you can use, the better (besides the additional benefit of existing support bases to get more help from).

    Hmm... if you can think of a journal type area that I could fit into, I would be more then willing to write on/for your little weblog/myspace/wiki. :-)

    There's more than one wiki software, though. Wikimedia (the one Wikipedia uses) might not be the best choice (maybe it is, maybe it isn't - have a look at the others as well).
