Doukutsu Monogatari
<div class="IPBDescription">"Cave Story"</div> I went to Penny Arcade. I read their thingy they always write before the braying and naying of barnyard animals. And I see this link to some game called "Cave Story." Say's it supposed to be some kinda...really good platformer.
I download the game, install the game, download the english patch, install the english patch, I boot up the game, <b>I am hooked</b>. Like, more hooked than I was on Maple Story.
Seriously, "Cave Story" is one awesome awesome awesome game. The gameplay is kinda like...like...Like Super Metroid, but more kawaii, has RPG elements, and you get a plethora of AWESOME weapons (I myself just got a machine gun, which when you upgrade to level 3, you can aim it down and it will rocket you into the air). The plot, (yeah, it has a plot) is really interesting, actually. I mean, it's nothing you haven't seen before, but it's a pretty great story you would expect from a professionally made game (which this is not). And the music instruments and melodies are all Nintendo-y, but somehow this really adds to the atmosphere of the game, and they're pretty tunes too. And they go along with the graphics, which are spectacularly 16 or 32 bit or something.
It's an ULTRA-cool game. Imagine if Metroid and Castlevania combined their powers, and then threw in a ton of "KAWAIII!!1 =3" characters.

they have a great group of people working for them, and new freeware is generaly up on their site very shortly after coming out (gunroar is also up there <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->)

I have met my match. The boss "Monster X" is a big fat meanie.
Weak.
Bubbler for life.

I must agree. It's not the fact that you can fire them all at once, it's the fact that you can use it as a sheild, that makes it invaluable.
Monster X was a bit of a hassle but I beat him. Thank god. Problem now are the other bosses that aren't land based.
Curse you! And I thought I was gonna be hooked to SO3 to actually finish Sphere 211!
EDIT : Ooooh he also posted the tool he used to make the background music. Nifty.

<b>edit:</b> eep! I got past the freeze by sorta waiting it out... it'd freeze for a bit then the music would suddenly play superfast and it'd work again.
Problem is now, when i get to the egg room at some point in the music my whole PC freezes :s
Gem, that sounds really odd, but I don't think it's because of the music having white noise(?) and crackling and stuff, because I've got that too... tried messing with the config thingey?
So far it's been really fun, only into the grass place now, trying to find the materials for the explosives, but the bubble gun is great. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Align, I'm pretty sure it's the music because it starts breaking up seriously about the same point in the tune every time and that's when the game comes grinding to a halt :s

Update das drivers!
This game's the only thing giving me trouble... gahhh...
oh which translation patch did you guys use? 'orgview translation' or 'cave story translation'? they were both in the download :o
It boggles my mind that I remember such a trivial detail about a game that I played through once several months ago. o_o

The game crashes for me when I get halfway through the second Labyrinth. Woe is me....but at least I can go play some other games.
EDIT : Used the Cave Story patch. OrgView Patch is only for the music player's patch, but I have that too <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Yeah but I meant that the quality of the sound is most likely unrelated to your problem..
Install another copy of the game in a different file. But this time, don't put the English patch on it. I think it corrupts one of the image files needed for the Labrynth. Now, go to you original Cave Story folder, and copy the file "Profile.dat". Paste in your new Cave Story folder, and continue it in the non-patched version of the game.
After the water giant fish battle.

Also, remember that the level 3 Sword is arguably the best anti-boss weapon because it lingers at the end of it's attack for an extra second to do more damage. And it's level 2 attack, while very short in range, does the most damage per hit.
The only downside is that one hit at Lv 3 will instantly level down the sword, making it a big priority to dodge just about every attack headed your way. Not so easy with ninja cockroaches that throw indestructable...thingies.
And to people having trouble with Lv 3 Sword, you must let the actual sword projectile hit the target, and not the slashes that surround 'it'.
And on another note, Balrog is like...a disfunctional toaster. Seriously.
Yeah... sounds like someone molested Super Metroid to death. Great.

Well, I only meant Metroid in the Gameplay aspect.
